PRESENTING HERETOFORE THIS BOOK HAS BEEN KNOWN AS THE ECHO. IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH A MORE UNIFORM NOMEN CLATURE THROUGHOUT OUR ACTIVITIES, WE, THE CLASS OF  56, DO ESTABLISH THAT HENCEFORTH THIS BOOK SHALL BE PUBLISHED UNDER THE TITLE OF ROCKET. WE, THE GRADUATING CLASS OP 1956, PROUDLY DEDICATE THIS YEARBOOK, RECORD OP OUR FINAL YEAR IN SPENCER HIGH SCHOOL, TO MRS. AGNES COPET, WHO DIED SUDDENLY ON JULY 25, 1955. SHE WILL LONG BE REMEMBERED POR HER FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THIS SCHOOL AND HER ENDURING FRIENDSHIP TO US ALL FOREWORD Here we are near the end of another school year, and a3 always, our happiness at the thought of graduating is tinged with sadness at having to leave the place where we have enjoyed ourselves so much and where we have made 30 many friends. High school has meant studylng-hlstory, chemistry, shorthand, algebra- everything from English literature to baking a cake. But that isn't all school has taught us. Responsibility, initiative, and private thinking were encouraged through discussions and participation in extra-curricular activities. And, then too, there have been all of those important little things, the gab fests, the bus rides, noon hour strolls, going to basket- ball games, to band tournaments, and to proms. How let's turn the pages and see what comprises our extra-curricular activities, who makes up our classes and faculty, and how we spent our last year at Spencer High. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY we entered our Freshman year on September 1, 19 2 with 1+3 students, we were a scared bunch of kids, afraid to walk in front of the main room in fear that someone might look at us. As time went on we con- quered our shyness and became well adjusted to the school. The next year we were back as Sophomores. This was to be the year we were to raise lots of money for our Junior expenses. Our Junior year was the biggest year. We had to put on a class play. The name of it was, Terror at Black Oaks. Our special thanks to Mrs. Zogg for directing it and making it a smash hit. Then came our Junior Prom and after much consideration we decided on the theme, Blue Hawaii, with music by Howard Sturtz, this was a grand success. Now we are Seniors, 38 of us. Some of the underclassmen look up to us and some do not. But really we are a swell bunch of kids after you get to know us. Our first event of this year was the Homecoming with Doris Hopfensperger and Ronald Toltzman as king and queen. Next was our biggest project of all, the annual. Our special thanks to Mrs. McCutcheon for her wonderful help in making the annual one of the best. This year we chose Here Comes Charlie as our Senior Class Play. Another big day for us will be our Senior class trip. Now as we leave here as adults of the future, we all look forward to many different occupations. But we are certain, if the kids in S.H.S. keep up the spirit of the school song good old S.H.S. will never be forgotten. Who is the killer of Algernon? Is it his convicted nephew or his lawyer? Terror, mystery, murder, and suspense come to a climax with the murder of Clarissa and the confession of both killings by Dave, a true crime writer. Romance also finds its way when Rusty announces his engagement to Bonnie. The theme. Blue Hawaii was carried out through the use of many volcanoes, huge palm trees, and lels. The guests were served refreshments in a native Hawaiian hut. A beauti- ful Hawaiian mural formed the background of the stage from which Howie Sturts provided the music for the evening. k Im trV i A A The Green Freshmen were warmly welcomed Into S.H.S. by the sopho- more class, on September 23 The girls were a handsome bunch with Daddy a shoes and shirt. The hair styles were divine, such cute little pigtails. The boys of the freshmen class made lovely women; with Mother's shoes, make-up. Jewelry and hat. The new teachers who Joined our faculty this year were garbed in their usual school clothes, worn backwards. The festivities were climaxed with a dance in the evening.
