Webster defines architecture as the art or practice of designing and building structures and especially habitable ones. Welt, Spelman Cattege has the reputation of being a beautiful campus within the Adams University Center. But it wasn? afways that way. Blacks were just released from bondage and dtdnht own land, therefore the church served as the social. educational, and spiritual meeting place. In :383, Spelman Seminary moved from the basement to the hand that she sits on now. At that time, the land was the site of old army barracks. Union Hath now comparable to Gites Hall, was the center of the educationat development for black women. Before the 1900's, Spelman's Rockefeller Hall, Packard Half, and Giles Halt were developed, weH-designeo' to remain standing. Today. Spelman has several buttdt'ngs fold and neuO that are representative of t'habitabte ones due to the conscious ehfort to keep the grounds standing with good educational and living facilities.
