Student Activities 1n the beginning of Spetman's history, the students were not as involved in the type of activities as today's Spelmanite. The fndustnht era kept students interested in cooking, sewing, housekeeping, and nursing. Others were involved as church workers and missionaries white some, behave it or not, played sports such as basketball. However. today's Spelmam'te can be involved in many, many extra-cum'cutar activities from academic and state clubs or nattonaHy-recogm'zcd sororities and fra tcrnfttcs to the Student Government or College Work Study. Depending on the individual, she ttoday's Spelmam'tej is given many options to increase her knowledge, confidence, tatents, and leadership abt'h'ttes. The students use these different fields creatively to express their inner feelings while their showing divine love for Spetman College. Many women he ve cat awa y from the industrial era and ha we moved into an era that defi'nes bfack womanhood in other areas such as corporate, medt'cat. judiciary. and artistic industry. .'
