Spelman College PRESENTS Reflections Patricia Dixon, Editor J . Q. Caruthers, Advisor With. every tick 0f the clock, another experience is added to 0m storehouse of memories. The swingng pendulum mveeps each movement, with its individual foys, sorrm-ps, and crises into the past, only to be re- called through our reflections. Within the course of four years, the hands of the clock span. a world of experiences. So it has been 11-!ith our life at Spelman. As we prepare r0 leave rhese protective mulls, our refiections remind. us of these I-rromems . . . 11101-113an that have brought us fron-z buds of yourh t0 blossoms 0f 1-tr01-1-1am'100d . . . that the faithful 02d clock has sifer-arly ticked away. Giving, giving of her love, time, and devotion to Spelman College. With a keen interest in the development of all areas of Student iife, her guiding hands and watchful eyes have directed many students aiong the disheartening path of preparatory years. Each precious thought of Spelman brings her sharply into view and returns wirh a sudden rush, all the wonderful things She did. Her heart was overflowing consmmly, making those amund her scurry to try to catch some of the overflow. Her unrirfng strength, loyalty, and devotion could never be questioned. The Spelman family is deeply saddened by her passing, yer her image 15 everfasrmg. Thus wrrh fondest memfrfes and veracious admiration, we Iovfngfy dedicate this book in memory of M: s Dororhy Shepard Man ey The greatest work has always gone with the most fervent moral purposes.w Sidney Lanier Anti mpmnriam We meet many peepic who offer meaning and inspiration to us. We pausa, and our lives rc- fiect their influence. Mrs. Dorothy Shepard Manley was one of those who inspired us to reach out beyond our- selves to acknowledge r10 impossibility. She will remain a cherished memory for she was ever striving to provide an atmosphere of freedom for exchange of ideas, for understanding of one another, for discovery of truth. She brought forth from herself a part of beauty. To a large extent I Dr. Manley has made Spelman exceptional in scholarship, ethical standards, and other phases of college life. Although the problems of administration are many, Dr. Manley's wise decisions; and planning have always been for the advancement of. educational advantages for the young women at Spelman College. 12 V, 'I. Just as rim ramp dispels the darkness, so fire members of this class strive :0 send forth their fight. Vanity JUDY TILLMAN It matters little where we were born, or who we are individually; but that we have fought a good fight, finished the course and kept the faith. Now there awaits for us a crowning experience of ac- complishment. The rewards of diligence cannot be singularly bestowed upon any one member of the nineteen sixty-five Senior Class, for we are all wonderfully bound in this matrix of ex- ' periences. I Together we have sincerely and efectively contributed to the life and growthof the college. The tributaries of our influence and dedication have flown into the mainstream of the college, and served as reservoirs of strength, enrichment and inspiration. Yes, we too have established precedence, we have held offices in all the major and minor organizations, we have surpassed all aca- demic expectations, we have culturally and socially promoted growth through our exceptional talents and varied cultural ex- priences, we have done this and more, but this is vanity-all vanity. The imprint that the nineteen sixty-five Senior C lass of Spelman College will leave, cannot be measured in the number of verbal acclamations that we receive or the material contributions that we have made or will make, nor in the precedence we establish. It can only be seen in the actions. ideas, and ideals of these classes that follow us. For we have better perceived and much more ef- fectively transmitted what no other class has done-the true spirit and image of a Spelman woman. We leave yott now dear Spelman with a priceless giftua gift that will make you all the better as you have made us. As Juniors we won the annual tiorigi- 1131 Class pep song contest, a part of our traditional Founders Day Exercise. We sang together as a class, a beautifully composed t song in. which our true feelings of -. . . .- love and belongingness to Spel- EKFX ' '- man were expressed. Thoughts of the Junior-Senior Prom will always remain a treasure in our storehouse of memories. The arch symbolic of love and the entrance into an eternal garden of bliss and happiness enchanted the evening as the surroundings gaily boasted its theme of friend- ship. This was truly a night to remember, as old friends and new friends met for an evening of dane- ing. As we continued our strive for excellence, this group of lovely young ladies from the Senior Class combined their melodous voices into a creative en- semble, The Sextetg Through long hour of practice and hard work this group of young ladies perfected a style all their own. This is but a minute example of the many talents of the Class of 1965. Because we love unity as much as excellence, the class chose lovely green blazers as our Senior Class uniform. The. dignity with which these three young ladies wear these blazers, symbolic of our class e01- ors, can be seen any warm, sunny day as the Class of 1965 dons their 'tSeniOt Dress' 3' 'fi' - m: mg! a l$!1!l'. iy' :- . .
