Christmas Dance is the annual poject of this club. Here they are again. Familiar alumni, home for the holidays, enjoy the Christmas dance. Helping students with problems and future plans of education were just a couple of the ways the guidance department helped Speedwayites. Each student was assigned to one of the 6 coun- selors: Mr. Troth, Mr. Nay, Mrs. Hine Mr. Wick- er, and Mr. Huckleberry, and were contacted dur- ing study halls. Here Mr. Troth, head of the gui- dance department, confers with Tana Meko. Go Get 'Em! Mr. Simons served as Speedway's first yell leader coach this year. Being a yell leader at college, Mr. Simons taught the yell leading squads quite a few tricks of the trade. Here he listens attentively as Phyllis Long proves a proposition in his geometry class. Back seat passengers Sandy Nice and Ralph Thomp- son aren't worried about Karen Richardson grinding the gears on this new car. The first driver's training car to have automatic transmission lessened the worries of the instruct- or, Mr. Crumley, a S. H. S. graduate himself. -2'l. PEEDWAY FIRSTS During the '58 - '59 school year many Speed- way Firsts appeared in every phase of school life. Among the advancements in progress were the addi- tion of a counseling system, a yell leader coach, and a drivers training car with automatic transmission. K ii . 3 Anxiously awaiting the announcement of queen, the court poses with their escorts. Queen candidates were Diane Woodward, Jane Hardin, Myrna Sailor, Pat Schwimer, Jeanie Piper, escorted respectively by Dave Knoll, Bob O'Neal, John Lennie, and Bob Adams. DREAM . . . Spreading Christmas joy at the dance were the Star-liters. This group of girls sang for many activities and won a first division at the State Solo and En- semble Contest. Members are Marcia Keever, Linda Houpt, Judy Kirchhoff, Karen White. Jeanette Potter, and Sharon Tarplee who is pictured in insert. l -Q3- Janie Hardin's Christmas Dreams came true when she was given the key to her Dreams when chosen queen.
