Helping students with problems and future plans of education were just a couple of the ways the guidance department helped Speedwayites. Each student was assigned to one of the 6 coun- selors: Mr. Troth, Mr. Nay, Mrs. Hine Mr. Wick- er, and Mr. Huckleberry, and were contacted dur- ing study halls. Here Mr. Troth, head of the gui- dance department, confers with Tana Meko. Go Get 'Em! Mr. Simons served as Speedway's first yell leader coach this year. Being a yell leader at college, Mr. Simons taught the yell leading squads quite a few tricks of the trade. Here he listens attentively as Phyllis Long proves a proposition in his geometry class. Back seat passengers Sandy Nice and Ralph Thomp- son aren't worried about Karen Richardson grinding the gears on this new car. The first driver's training car to have automatic transmission lessened the worries of the instruct- or, Mr. Crumley, a S. H. S. graduate himself. -2'l. PEEDWAY FIRSTS During the '58 - '59 school year many Speed- way Firsts appeared in every phase of school life. Among the advancements in progress were the addi- tion of a counseling system, a yell leader coach, and a drivers training car with automatic transmission. CADET AND EVE TH GRADE The Cadet Band, under the direction of Miss Rust, is the training group for the high school band. Members of this band are: ROW 1: Miss Rust, Kay Ward, Pat Flanagan, Sandy Hickey, Mimi Stout, Jim Robinson, Tom Howard, Dave Frazier, Elenor Fletcher, Marsha Seibert, Karen Updike, Alicia Mac- Abee and Karen Takacs. ROW 2: Julie Cook, Kathy Bradley, Larry Phillips, Gil Work, Sandra Feely, Judy Allen, Bob Davison, Denny Hubbell, Judy McClamroch, Henry Mosser, Ruth Schnable, Sherfil Scoggan and Noah Beck. ROW 3: Sandy Eppen, JoAnn Foster, Doug Strouse, Bernie Enlow, John Bareham, Jim Cook, Bob Poste, Brian Trentham, Sharon Grimes, Judy Butler, Anita Beatty, John Bulr lington, and Jane Curry. ROW 4: Joan Kojola, Terry Helser, Frank Rupe, Glen Miller, Mark Young, Beth Zimmer- man, Jack Troth, David Schein, Phil Baker, Jim McKinney, Dick Riggle, and Noel Shaw. TRAINING BAND The beginning band or the 7th grade band is the smallest of the three bands. The members are: ROW 1: Nancy Kern, Richard Stanton, Marsha Mason, Charlotte Raquet, and Gwen Goff. ROW 2: Fred Zorniger, Kay Evans, Barbara Simons, Connie Faulk, Richard Harper, Richard Griffin, Kitty Kirby, Richard Hoerger, and Mark Kelly. ROW 3: Sandy Feucht, Marilyn Hubbard, Marylynn Miller, Sandy Lampman, Kay Rumbaugh, Jane Ro- bards, Janice Tremor, Jeanie Nesbit, Linda Nice, Peg- gy Miller, and Gary Bell. ROW 4: Ray Runkel, Shirley Atkinson, Ed Irwin, Tom Elson, Mike Hackett, David Huffman, Dave Johnson, ' Nick Green.
