The Varsity band is under the direction of Mr. Wicker and Miss Rust. Our marching band performed at all home football games this past year. The band also traveled to Indi- ana University for I.U's annual band day. Other activities were participation in the concert band contest at Sheridan and the giving of a convo on February 18, as well as playing for the P.T.A. on March 11. Senior members include Mike Beck, Jim Burkhart, Beverly Cole, Bob Cox, Eugene En- low, Janice Gale, Bill Hackett, Lewis Jay, Clark Johnson, Janette Jolliff, Paul Kojola, Jim McClamroch, Natalie McClelland, Sheron Melton, Wanda Miller, Nancy Morgan, Jeanie Piper, Jeanette Potter, Jim Sprinkles, Judy Standiford, Rosemary Strouse, Bill Sweet, Sue Todd, Denny Troth, Bart Updike, Carol Wenning, Paula Winterfeldt, Diane Woodward and Roberta Yoho. Juniors are Mike Anthony, Beverly Bates, Jerry Black, Steve Bradley, Janette Briggs, Dick Burdge, Bill Cline, Rowena Degan, Nita Degener, Charlene Eversole, Frank Frosch Joe Griffin, Sandy Huffman, Mary Johnson, Sally Kern, Bob Leonard, Steve Livingston Melinda McArthur, Alice McCracken, Linda Messenger, Sandy Morrow, Bonnie North, Kar- en Richardson, Barbara Runkel, William Scott, Joyce Shinkle, Ralph Thompson, Beverly Trueblood, Tom Walker, Carole Wright, and Jerry Zimmer. Sophomore members are Tana Alguire, Mary Jane Blase, Ron Carter, Beverly Dine, Nancy Ellwanger, Lois Frye, Herman Greenwood, Roger Helser, Gay Halbert, Jerry John- son, Donna Keever, Ron LaFeber, Ralph Logston, Tana Meko, Marilyn Neiman, Bob Parke, Marcia Pollock, Karen Rupert, Sharon Stout, Dianne Tower, Luanne Tower, and Mary Jane Walker. Freshmen members are Jim Gabert, Denny Hackett, Nancy Hiatt and Sherry Wilson. r 9 x Richard Stanton, pride of the seventh grade, won the hearts of the audience. Richard played the selection which Ronnie LaFeber, Jerry Black, and Denny Hackett won him a first division at the District Solo and Ensemble drew the audience's attention as they sounded forth with Cgntest their trio number. -13- WINNER HOW TALE TC

The pep band lives up to its name by adding pep to our yells and to the atmosphere of the game, This band consists of sixteen members from the varsity band who play at all home basketball games. This year's mem- bers are Bill Hackett, Barbara Runkel, Bart Updike, Mike Anthony, Jerry Black, Ronnie Lalfeber, Carol Wenning, Jim Sprinkles, Jeanette Potter, Lewis -lay, Sandy Huffman, Frank Frosch, Bob Leonard, Bill Sweet, Steve Bradley, and Jerry Zimmer, Here Mr. Wirker prepares to direct the next number during a home ball game. High stepping Bill Hackett, drum major, led our marching band. Bill also step- ped into the shoes of Mr. Wicker and direct- ed the pep band during the home football games. At the last home football game, Octo- ber 22, the American Legion presented Ron- nie I,aFeber a certificate of merit. Ronnie, at the beginning of each game, played the Star Spangled Banner for their flag-rais- ing ceremony. .I7. For the first time in the history of S,H.S., a fea ture twirler was added to the attraction of our band Sharon Stout, who obtained a first in the state twir ling contest, dazzled the fans' eyes with her feats. i

Not 76 Trombonesn but three were featured at the program. The players are Frank Frosch, Bill Hackett, and Jim McClamroch. AT BAND . . .PROGRA Mike Anthony, a member of both pep and varsity bands, beats out a sizzling arrangement of High Hat dur- ing the band convo. With licorice sticks in hand the clarinet players gave out with real cool notes. Members of the clarinet section are Jim Gabert, Tana Meko, Beverly Dine, Nita Degener, Marilyn Neiman, Nancy Hiatt, Charlene Eversole, Mary Johnson, Karen Richardson, Diane Wood- ward, Roberta Yoho, Sue Todd, Gene Enlow, Jeanie Piper, Carole Wright, and Janet Briggs. -19-
