Vanguard, Explorer, Sputnik ---familiar words in the English language created new interest in math and science. Mr. Clark, biology teacher, imparts instruction on the vein system of a leaf to freshman biology students, Sheryl Forsythe and Corky Queener. Bill Tingle, a sophomore, locates point O while proving a proposition in Mrs. Welborn's geometry class. These students are receiving the basic fundamentals in the important fields of math and science. -7- . And Studied Adding color and gaiety to Mrs. Hine's iunior literature class is the Christmas window, which is painted each year by the high school art class, under the guidance of Miss Waltz. This year Pat Kuczenski created the design for the window.

The rain in Spain lies mainly in the plain --Steve Patrick, Bill Beck, Jerry Black, Mike Gradison, Mike Swift, and Mike Taylor practice their diction as they learn the qualifications of a good radio announcer. You'll never hit me, taunt the targets in a game of dodgeball. The members of this eighth grade class are keeping physically fit under the instruction of Mr. Sallee. - 6 How do you peel? ask Judy Kendall and Kae Ewing as Steve Bradley, Kent McCoy and Mr. Sallee offer their mas culine advice to the lady dr: vers. Seventh graders require a lot of instruction before they are prepared to be in the high school band and the Sparkle-Aires. Assisting Mr. Wicker in his difficult task this year were Mr. John Gentry, a student teacher from Indiana State Teachers' College, and Miss Rust,a graduate of ISTC.

Site 5211: Mrs. Rose Kendall, a new teacher at Speedway this year, reminds John Harris not to for- get his commas in the inside address of o friendly letter. Peggy Bonham demonstrates the use ofthe salutation in her friendly letter. Substituting for Miss Waltz is Mrs. Helen Kelley. These seven- th grade art students stay busy even in the absence ot their teacher. You want my picture? asks Bob Wason, as he looks up from his desk in the mechanical drawing class. Others are Cor- ky Queener and Ronnie LaFe- berlin the backgroundl and Ronnie Rupert, Dick Kelley, Dave Dobson, Don Boles, Tom Whitton, Jerry Foland, ond Jack Albright. The hunt and peck system is no longer utilized by these sophomore typing students. Their instructor is Mr. Foland. -3,
