Class History Here we are the Seniors, waiting for graduation. As we look back, we remember all the good times the Class of 54 has shared. Our first big moment began in September, i942 when we stepped into the first grade with help during that first year from Miss Robey and Miss Knetzer. Our next thrill came H9471 when we became 6th grad- ers-real big-timers of the grade school . . . watching over the under-classmen when we became traffic officers and got our chance to dish out our share of the penalties. Before we knew it, we were 7th graders and the first class to initiate the new high school building. We started a bulging bank roll with the proceeds from the Bobby Sox Ball, first dance we ever sponsored. Our 7th and 8th grade basketball teams represented us well with help from Mari- lyn Thomas, Ann Healey, Shirley England, Joann Farley, and Wayne Armentrout, our 7th grade yell-leaders, and Jody Piper, Ann Healey, Joann Farley, and Marilyn Thomas, yell-leaders during the 8th grade. Quillin's backyard served as a hangout for our 7th grade class party. To start our first junior high school year off right, we chose as class of- ficers: lra Littleton, president, Pam Owings, vice-presi- dentg Mary Wengender, secretary, Bruce Kelley, treasurer, and Mrs. Strong, class sponsor. Our 8th grade officers were Ira Littleton, president: John Reidy, vice-presidentg Ann Healey, secretary, Joann Farley, treasurer, with Mrs. Kopesky as class sponsor. During the first day of our Freshmen year, the fad was boxes and bows to start our first year as real high-school- ers out right. Carleton Toole took the honor of being our first high school president with help from Jimmy Farley, vice-presidentg Jacquie Loffland, secretary, Ann Healey, treasurer, and Mr. Wicker as class sponsor. We held our annual get-together at Noblesville. Joann Farley repre- sented us well by strutting her stuff as a majorette. After a year of torture and suspense, we became sopho- mores. A lot of exciting things happened. Marilyn Thom- as and Ann Healey became varsity yell-leaders . . . Phyllis Robbins was elected Athletic Queen . , . Marilyn Thomas was chosen as Speedway's representative to Block's Fash- ion Board. Our class officers served us so well in our Freshman year, we chose them this year again, with Mr. Trosky as class sponsor. Also liking Noblesville so well, we journeyed there again in our Sophomore year. Here we were with one more step up the ladder to go- Juniors! To guide us safely through the Year, we chose Carleton Toole, president, Bud Green, vice-president, Jacquie Loffland, secretary, Ann Healey, treasurer, and Mr. Burns, class sponsor. This year was a big year for all of HISTORIANS Joann Farley, Jacquie Loffland us . . . spent all our hard-earned money for class rings . . . Jody Piper was elected as Athletic Queen . . . Marilyn Thomas and Ann Healey were elected as varsity yell-lead- ers again . . . Jody Piper and Bob Howard and John Weddle were chosen to represent Speedway at Hoosier Boys' State and Hoosier Girls' State . . . Mumbo Jumbo, our Junior Play, was a terrific success under the direction of Mr. Burns. . . Autumn Twirl, our Junior Dance, proved to be just as successful with Buddy Weber and his orchestra providing the music . . . and to end this wonderful year,, we held the annual Junior-Senior Reception honoring the i953 Seniors at Atherton Center with Barton Rogers and his orchestra. Here we are at last, after a long climb up the ladder- SENIORSY Our Junior officers proved to be so efficient, we chose them again to help us through our final year. Events and honors were many this last year . . . John Weddle was elected by the student body as President of the Student Council . . . Joann Farley became Drum Major . . .Ann Healey was again elected as varsity yell-leader and was chosen by her classmates as DAR Good Citizen . . . Love ls in the Air, chosen as our Senior play, brought the house down with applause and laughs and was fol- lowed afterward by a dinner given for our director, Mr. Burns and his wife . . . Our Senior Dance, ln The Mood, with Barton Rogers and his Orchestra, was a dreamy success . . . and to wind up this happy and glorious year, the Jun- iors did a fine job of honoring us at the annual Junior- Senior Reception at Atherton Center. All good things must come to an end sometimeg now we are leaving behind us the best years of our lives. The friends we gained will never be forgotten and we hope you will always remember the Class of 54 and have as many good times as we've had at S. H. S.
