Dear Mr. Mikkelsen, The complete sincerity, thorough cooperation, and deep understanding shown toward us, the students of Spearfish High School, are characteristics of yours that we will remember as we recall our high school days. The many hours of thoughtful guidance you have given us are greatly appre- ciated. Your knowledge of the problems of the high school students, combined with your ability to solve them, certainly have helped to make our high school years more enjoyable. In appreciation of these traits, to you, Superintendent E. C. Mikkelsen, the SPARTAN staff dedicates this 1957 SPARTAN. The SPARTAN Staff —3—

LOOKOUT Production Demands Many Skills Although the SHS journalism class is designed primarily to give students basic training in journalism, it also produces the LOOKOUT, a bi-weekly school paper. The paper brings school news and editorials to the students, and is completely produced by the students in the journalism class. In addition to the regular jobs at which members of the class are pictured, every member of the class is a reporter. Members of the LOOKOUT business staff are Roqer Dingeman, Bonnie Steele, Carlo Curnow, and Marie Miller. The LOOKOUT sports staff in 1957 was composed of Jim Matson and Jerry Rygg, shown with copyreader Bill McGuigan. -V
