Martha Clark Reigns as S H S Queen Martha Clark was crowned queen for 1956-57 on October 4, 1956, after Tom Campbell, student body vice president, announced the results of the voting. Senior Larry Roberts served as queen ' s escort; Jerry Ainsworth, football captain, presented the football; and Janice Pollard, SHS queen for 1953-54, presented the crown.

Jo Ann McLaughlin Aletha Buchholz Bonnie Baker Karen Crowner Mary Jean Seeley Cheerleaders Add Spark to Games and Rallies Three seniors and two sophomores representing Spearfish High School attended a cheerleading clinic on the campus of Chadron State Teachers College, Chadron, Nebraska. Many new yells were introduced and these gained much success at home. Other trips taken by the cheerleaders were to Lemmon, McLaughlin, and Pierre. During football season the cheer- leaders wore gray sweaters and maroon slacks. -14-

Other members of the council, standing, are Karen Greqson, Barbara Keene, Patsy Wood, Dave Whitlock, Dick Termes, Larry Bell, LaVon Cundy, Nancy Wyne, and Jimmy Whitlock. Council Plans Activities for Students Designed primarily to give the students experience in the democratic form of government, the SHS stu- dent council also has other duties. The student council presents the students ' viewpoint to the faculty of SHS. This year they sponsored several school parties, along with their usual work on such school activities as SHS Day. Clark, Campbell Head Student Council After a short but hectic campaign, Martha Clark was elected student body president, while runner-up Tom Campbell became vice-president. These officers also headed the student council in the same capacity, aided by secretary-treasurer La Von Cundy.
