Spartan Cagers Finish Third Finishing third in the Black Hills Conference, the 1956—57 Spartan basketball team ended its season with fifteen wins and ten losses for a successful season. The Spartans outscored their opponents in total points 1365 to 1254. The team added a trophy earlier by taking runner-up honors in the Sturgis Invitational Tournament. Leading scorers for the season were: Total points Roger Bell 274 James Matson 244 Jerry Ainsworth 223 John Kinyon 213 Larry Roberts 200 J Bell Given All -State Honor Roger Bell, Spartan high scorer for 1955—57, pictured at right, was chosen a member of the second squad in the all-state basketball selections in 1957. Bell is the only member of this year ' s SHS team to be selected for all-state honors. —10—
