I ' m your 1957 SPARTAN. I ' m sure you will all know some facet of my character. Just turn my pages, and if the story I tell brings back some memories of your 1957 school days, the staff which created me will not consider their time wasted. Flip through my pages until you find yourself and your classmates. 1 have a part of your 1956β57 SHS days somewhere inside my cover, so go through until you find it. Good luck and good reading. -2β Dear Mr. Mikkelsen, The complete sincerity, thorough cooperation, and deep understanding shown toward us, the students of Spearfish High School, are characteristics of yours that we will remember as we recall our high school days. The many hours of thoughtful guidance you have given us are greatly appre- ciated. Your knowledge of the problems of the high school students, combined with your ability to solve them, certainly have helped to make our high school years more enjoyable. In appreciation of these traits, to you, Superintendent E. C. Mikkelsen, the SPARTAN staff dedicates this 1957 SPARTAN. The SPARTAN Staff β3β LOOKOUT Editor Jim McCleave, Adviser Georgia Hanson, and Assistant Editor Martha Clark are pictured here glancing over a newly completed LOOKOUT. f rj Hm rM) : $ - .ai ' ' O c O ' . r I V ., ,.: C ' s tβ β 0 ' .w H ' β %c ' ::v : - - x - 9cv ;vee- c. --β β cC Bosses Over People Plus Machines Equals Publication Shown below with the mimeograph machine are LOOKOUT staffers Mary Craig, Barbara Soliday, and LaVon Cundy. LOOKOUT Production Demands Many Skills Although the SHS journalism class is designed primarily to give students basic training in journalism, it also produces the LOOKOUT, a bi-weekly school paper. The paper brings school news and editorials to the students, and is completely produced by the students in the journalism class. In addition to the regular jobs at which members of the class are pictured, every member of the class is a reporter. Members of the LOOKOUT business staff are Roqer Dingeman, Bonnie Steele, Carlo Curnow, and Marie Miller. The LOOKOUT sports staff in 1957 was composed of Jim Matson and Jerry Rygg, shown with copyreader Bill McGuigan. -V 1 - i i r.
