Spartans, This is your 1950 annual. It represents not only the school, but each and every one of you. It shows you participating in sports, enjoying the thrill of Spearfish High School Day, attending the style show, winning honors for the school and yourselves, and all the activities and functions of which you are a part. For you Seniors, it is the record of your last year in high school, which will be treasured in later life. To you, the underclassmen, it is the passing of a school year filled with happy memories and events. Our aim has been to show you in action throughout the year, to picture the many incidents that' help to make high school years the best years of our lives. We hope you like it. The 1950 Spartan Staff -2- Q. t E. C. Mikkelsen, Superintendent of Spearfish Public Schools Dedication Dear Mr. Mikkelsen, We are dedicating the 1950 Spartan to a man who has been a teacher and adviser throughout our high school career. No doubt, We will remember the Hfatherly chats in the office, but also we won't forget a new-found interest in algebra, your helpful attitude in planning school parties, or your wonderful cooperation in making it possible for us to have our first SHS Day. You have been one of the most steadying influences of our high school days. So, in appreciation of the guidance and help you have given us, we, the class of 1950, are dedicating the 1950 Spartan to you, our Super- intendent of Spearfish Public Schools, Mr. E. C. Mikkelsen. ..3.. ,L c 1. f tv gg VFENQQ 9 , Eh' .I ' t . x X rx X., 4- A A STANDING C R McCain Burt Matson, R. M. Burnham, Rex C. Repass, Supt. E. C. Mikkelsen SEATED T E. Kirkpatrick, Dr. B. Board of Advisers The Board of Advisers, an organization whose purpose it is to represent the student body in school affairs that concern them, is one of the most important groups in the school. Meetings are held every two weeks on Wednesday. A Worthwhile accomplishment of the year was a suggestion-box which was placed in Study Hall to give students a chance to present questions for the Board to discuss. The Board of Advisers sponsored the crowning of the school queen on SHS Day. They also cooperated with the FTA in sponsoring a Christmas party at which alumni were guests. ...3.. Graduation had claimed a large portion of last year's rnainstays, leaving Coach Don Allan few veterans around which to build his team. Showing marked improvement throughout the season, the Spartans Com- pleted their seven game schedule with two wins and five losses. The sports- manship and the never say die attitude of the squad was recognized through- out the Hills. l949 SCHEDULE We They Sundance There 33 Sturgis There 19 Deadwood There 26 Hot Springs Here 39 Belle Fourche Here 26 Custer Here 13 Lead Here 14 .25 r TOP ROW: Billy Boint, Marshall Eddy, Victor Pratt, Jimmy Nelson, Donley Harris, Roger Noss, James Eddy, Allen Jonas, Morton Hitzel.
