PHUPHECY Ulf THE EL SS lllfi1l3 Of the past we know-of the future we can only guess. Let us turn the pages of about ten years of time and see what some of the present students at S. J. C. are doing in the year of Our Lord 1953, This we are able to do by the use of some advanced mathematical calculation revealed by the grains in some of the stones of the Prank Walker building. Some are in the ministry and are doing a great work. ' Charles Blackmon is the pastor of one of the large Methodist churches of the Upper South Carolina conference. Estelle Stanley is a missionary to China. Most of the others in our class are around close by, in various vocations and professions. Rurel Bell is back in South Cweorgia, farming and doing explorations in the wilds of the Okefenokee Swamp. Cornelia Thompson is teaching school and is coaching the girls' basketball team at her school. Henry Kenworthy has changed little.: he's still working hard-still using his intellect to serve in the capacity of editor of a large daily paper in a big city-and still rushing madly around at the last minute to get each edition out on time. Cecile Causey is thinking of getting married again assoon as she can make up her mind as to which of her present suitors to accept. ' Howard Ears Parker owns a large farm near Pendleton, S. C. He's raising chickens on the side to sell to the Avis Rarae of S. J. C., and making much profit. Helen Case is a stenographer for the Imperial Tobacco Company and spends most of her working time making records of the enormous sales made by America's No. l auctioneer- Howard Shorty Wall. Howard White has gone into politics and is now mayor of Gaffney. His gift of gab, which has been evident throughout his stay here is proving of some value after all. Garland Mule O'Shields is the physical education director and is assistant to Coach Slim B. Mooneyham here at S. J. C. Yes, Mule still knows where the basket is located. Ada Ruth Edge still has the same disposition which won her many friends while in school and it is serving her well in her present job of teaching school. Margie Stewart is teaching also. The music of one of the leading churches of Virginia is under the direction of Juanita Cientry, but her major career is that of a housewife. Beatrice Derrick is the wife of a farmer living near Leesville. She is active in the local church. Lee Belle Stanley is with her sister, Estelle, in China. Lee Belle is teaching the Chinese how to play American games, mainly basketball. Now let us look at one particular event of the year 1953--the alumni meeting of Spartan- burg Junior College. Shortly after the gathering opens, some of the boys begin a game which lasts until the gathering dissolves. Eaye Nix strolls in and everyones attention is turned to her. Immediately we notice that she is still quite attractive. Mazie Belk talks continuously about her husband and his faults. Thomas Euller has come up from Alabama. Yes. that ring he's wearing is the' ring of Auburn graduates. Very little is accomplished at this meeting, for the Rare Birds keep the group in a commotion--wanting to hurry to eat. If these prophecies prove too far wrong. don't look for me at that alumni meeting in 53. Of the class as a whole l prophesy that it will go into the world as an agent of truth and knowledge, with the ideal that nothing is too small to overlook nor too big to conquer. XVhen we come to our wits end and all seems despair. 'XVhy say-sail on. sail on. sail on and on. That spirit will typify the class of '43 throughout the years to come. ARTIJUR UNTIKEH SMITH, CICISS Prophet. Page Fifteen
