CLASS HISTUHY In September, 1941, the aurora of another sunrise burst on the campus of Spartanburg Junior College, making a new day in the career of our present sophomore class. Students from the neighboring states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia found their way here. We, in our youthful aspirations, looked to the faculty for counsel and instruction. V New acquaintances were made, and we soon took up the studies of algebra. Spanish, French, chemistry, Bible, and trigonometry. Mr. Mooneyham was our sponsor. The president of the freshman class was Charles Peebles with Margie Stewart, Juanita Gentry, and William Edwards as vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively. Eager for knowledge, we pursued our studies. Throughout the year we had our ups and downs. After our final examinations, we were freed from the study of books and permitted to go home. i After an intermission of fourteen weeks, the members of the class reas- sembled in their respective places. Some, for various reasons, did not return. Many of the boys gave up the thought of continuing their education and offeredthemselves to the service of their country. The afternoon of this all-important day in our lives was in September. 1942. Miss Annie Bell Brantley was chosen sponsor of our class. Charles Peebles was again made president. The duties of the vice-president were assumed by Cornelia Burns, those of secretary by Lee Belle Stanley, and those of treasurer by Ruth Brannon. As the climax of our history, the season of graduation now approaches. In spite of the excitement, there is a sensation of sadness that we are unable to express. . .a sadness that causes our hearts to turn leaden in our bosoms. a sadness because we have assembled for the last time. When we leave Spartanburg Junior College, we will be reminded of our parents whose sacrifices have represented their faith in us. The sunrise of this epoch has faded into a sunset, which in all its serenity and splendor, beckons us to go ever forward. As we leave the campus of Spartanburg Junior College, we face a world of chaos: a world that is torn and tattered by the curse of war: a world that we must help to reconstruct. We go into a world of reality rather than into a world of dreams. Each of us has an objective to work toward. an end to accomplish. The sunset casts its last rays upon this phase of our lives. May the reflection of all its beauty be intensified as we go forth to do the tasks which lie ahead! .ESTELLE STANLEY. Class HliSI'OI'liGI7. Page Seven
