turned In one. a painting of matchless worth. did I recognize that our llyron was the Clark who was mov- ing the world of art hy his marvelous power. Then I marveled how wlwndrously well he had hidden this extraordinary talent during the days spent in the Spar- tanlmnrg lligh School. Klusing on this picture I was interrupted hy the appearance of a lansiness-like woman. whom the artist scarcely noticed, NU rapt was he on his work, as she enthusiastically related her latest experience and won- drous results in mental telepathy, but no one could doubt the fond smile with which his face lighted as he said. I, ton. as well its this old world. am proud of yon. my dear Chloe. In the twinkling of an eye, the scene was changed. and a miserable hovcl. than which could he no worse. and a woman bending :fer a sick child's hed. appeared hefore my eyes. and a mother's weak and trembling voice said. Dear Xliss llenderson. Cod has given you to us. a ministering angel not only to the slttltls uf Chicago, lint the poor and needy everywhere. Through a mist of tears the scene of pathos changed again to one uf lmnstling activity in the most fashionable quarter of the world's largest city. I'er- fectly lxewildcred hy the artistic array of the most beautiful models the world has ever known and by the undoubtedly classic lines and artistic arrangement uf color and design, I turned to see who might this gifted designer he. and only when I had read and re- read the sign, Garlen Ilehhangh. lic-signer of Ameri- can Fashions, could I reconcile the model of fashion whom I beheld to he the Garlen of olden days. 'lircnihlingly as I turned the last leaf. I beheld the fate of the last member of the illustrious class of '14, for in the presidents mansion presided the presiden- trix the tirst national executive of the Suiragist party. I looked and looked again ere sight and sense could agree. that the most bitter opponent of the Suffrage movement. Imyl Mann of high school days could have heen so converted that she would have consented to giesinne the ohligations of the highest oliice of the land. .X hlast of air rushed through the cave scattering the leaves and the elanging of the door foretold that an intruder had entered my cave when with a start I awakened to nnd my Yergil lying on the floor.
