To the Class of 1956: As your graduation approaches you are reaching the end of a process of development which has determined in a large measure the person you will become in future years. It is our belief that an individual who has learned to communicate well: who knows something of the complex and wonderful world of science: who has developed certain basic skills: and who understands the heritage, history, and present status of our country will become a wiser, hap- pier, and more competent adult and citizen than he would otherwise have been. It is our hope that your years in school have been productive to this end. As Emerson truly said: The test of civilization is the kind of man the country turns out.
