JACK E. HUNTLEY His life was gentle, and the elements so mixed in him That Nature might stand up and say to all the world, 'This was a man! William Shakespeare We shall never forget Jack, one of the best friends S.T.H. S. ever had. Always ready with a pat on the back for a discouraged lad on the team and ever on the front row of the cheering section, he was an inspiration to all who knew him. His reputation as Sparta Township High's number one sports fan will long remain in our memories. JACK E. Mr. Willard Steven- son, Mr. Frank Adams, Assistant Principal; Mr. John R. Warren, Principal; Mr. Austin R. Cairns, President; Reverend R. W. Stewart, Secretary; Mr. Arthur Weber, Mr. Donald McConachie, and Mr. Herman Beisner. To the Class of 1956: As your graduation approaches you are reaching the end of a process of development which has determined in a large measure the person you will become in future years. It is our belief that an individual who has learned to communicate well: who knows something of the complex and wonderful world of science: who has developed certain basic skills: and who understands the heritage, history, and present status of our country will become a wiser, hap- pier, and more competent adult and citizen than he would otherwise have been. It is our hope that your years in school have been productive to this end. As Emerson truly said: The test of civilization is the kind of man the country turns out. I congratulate you on your achievement and wish for you a full measure of future success and happiness from your fellow students, your teachers, and myself. John R. Let us cast a reflective eye over the events which have taken place during our high school days. In 1952 our class became the green freshmen at Sparta High. Adapting our- selves to new surroundings quickly, we entered our candidate, Shirley Wilson of Baldwin, in the Homecoming Queen contest of that year. We also took part in the first student council at S.T.H.S. Our sophomore year we saw the inauguration of the new Homecoming Queen contest method. The 1954-1955 school year found our class, now Juniors, busy with the Junior- Senior banquet and prom, the theme of which was Moonlight and Roses. We were then and are now proud of that accomplishment of our Junior year. At the 1955 Homecoming, the student body chose Dixie Rotramel to be their Queen. Marcia Morgenthaler and Janel Pigford served as Maids of Honor. The 1955- 56 Bulldog, published by the class of '56, will serve as a lasting monu- ment to our class.
