Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1954 volume:

Sparta, Illinois ra t rf You’re typical teens--making fun out of work--sharing interests--you like jeans but can change to glamour when it fits the occasion. Yes, you’re typical teens--Go steady--about five months--Dress up--heels for her--tie for him--You know how to drive--rely on the family bus--get it--say twice a week. You snack, watch television, listen to the radio while doing home work. You’re a typical high school student--You go out for sports one hundred per cent--You h o 1 d down a job--baby sit--sometimes into the early hours of morning--You work in stores--garages--up late--little spare time. Your daily schedule is a familiar pattern of high school life--get up at 7:30 maybe 8:00--sometimes oversleep--ride the bus--go at break-neck speed to cafeteria for lunch--drink cokes—munch candy bars and hot dogs—now and then you order a real feed — You enjoy school but hate to admit it—study some-three hours a night—no—a week—average “A”—well “C”—Anyway you make the grade—just—but you’re satisfied because you are a teenager. And so since you have all these qualities be they good or bad, ludicrous, pathetic, or otherwise we “DEDICATE THIS 1953-’54 BULLDOG TO YOU, THE STUDENTS OF SPARTA TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL.’’ vte. Left to right: Mr. A1 Michael Young. Mr. Dwight Fulton, Mr. Don Holloway, Mr. John R. Warren, Principal; Mr. Austin R. Cairns, President; Reverend R. W. Stewart, Secretary; Mr. Arthur Weber, Mr. Fred Rotramel and Mr. Herman Beisner. 'P'Uacifial ‘TfCeteaye To The Class of 1954: As you leave our school and go on to take your place in the world it is my sincere wish that your years in school will have been meaningful and productive for you. We value the contribution which you have made to the success of our school and hope that we have contributed to your preparation for success in life. I hope, too, that you will translate the lessons learned in school into an active, intelligent participating role in the affairs of our community, state, and nation. America is strong only as each citizen is strong, so each of us should strive to give the best that is in us always. I wish each one of you a full measure of success and happiness in the years that lie ahead. May the memories that you have of us be pleasant and the friendships you have formed here be dear to you. We have had many eventful experiences in our high school years which we and the student body will long remember. Our class work and activities as freshmen began and proceeded in a customary fashion as we adjusted ourselves to high school life. As sophomores our subjects advanced, we had new teachers, we lost some of our original classmates, and some of us assisted in the success of the Junior-Senior Prom. The first important event of our junior year was when our candidate, Rosalind Lindsay, was crowned Homecoming Queen for 1952-1953. Our winter project was the presentation of What Ann Brought Home, a three-act comedy. A year of hard work was climaxed by a most successful prom. In our senior year Suzy Kaye was voted Homecoming Queen by popular vote from three senior candidates. The Maids of Honor were Thelma Todd and Mary Jane Beattie. It has been our privilege to present this annual to you this year. Many of the students from our class have been outstanding in the fields of music, dramatics, athletics, or agriculture. We, the senior class, wish to express our sincere thanks to our principal, advisors, and teachers. We have truly enjoyed our classes and activities in S. T. H. S.
