COLORS--Blue and White 2 my G . SENIOR HISTORY an I 2 FLOWER- -Carnation The Class of 1959 started off with a bang in Sep- tember, 1955, having a freshman enrollment of over 200 students. We elected as our first class officers: Tom Kirchoff, presidentg Kathy O'Connell, vice- presidentg Nancy Paulson. secretary-treasurer. Our Student Council representatives were Gary Northup and Betty Blackburn. We started our tradition- -of working hard and co-operating to turn out a good Homecoming float-- which lasted throughout our high school years. We captured third prize with our first one, We'll Shock Mauston. L Near the end of our freshman year, the class se- lected Carolynn Walters as our attendant to the queen for the spring camival. Our sophomore class officers included: Gary Northup, president, Ken Varley, vice-president, Betty Blackbum, secretary, and Carolyn Walters, treasurer. We were capably represented on the Student Council by Diane Anderson, Kathy Lawler, Shirley Loeffel- holz, Kathy O'Connell, Roger Matson, Dennis Nic- hols, Sandy Wendorf, and Carolyn Walters. Our second-prize winning float was entitled Banking on Sparta. Our very successful junior year was begun by elec- ting Gary Northup as president, Jerry Frederick, vice- president, Faye Anderson, secretaryg and Bonnie Blinn, treasurer. Student Council representatives were Sandy Wendorf, Kathy O'Connell, Roger Matson, Dennis Nichols, Carolyn Walters, Lana Heasty, and Yvonne Waldon. Kathy Lawler was Student Council secretary- 1 treasurer. Homecoming was especially successful this year. Our float, Sparta Will Lick 'Em, featuring a huge lollipop, took second place. We chose as two lovely attendants to the queen, Ginny Stevens and Lois La- Course. Our Prom, Sail Along, Silv'ry Moon, was the most beautiful Sparta High School has ever seen. King Willie Schowalter chose Sandra Wendorf as his queen. We danced to the music of Larry Zieman. Our Badger Boys' State representatives were Bill Hawkins, Gary Northup, and Kent Jacobsen, while our Badger Girls' State delegate was Kathy Lawler. The fall of 1958 found us seniors at last! Serving his third year as class president was Gary Northup, assisted by Herb Ballman, vice-presidentg Gisela Schlaich, secretaryg and Barbara Ottum, treasurer. Representing the seniors on the Student Council were Kathy Lawler, Lois LaCourse, Bonnie Blinn, Alan Mc- Coy, Kent Jacobsen, Susie Williams, and Gisela Schlaich. Two seniors served as Student Council of - ficers--Dennis Nichols as president and Sandy Wen- dorf as secretary-treasurer. We were proud to have in our graduating class a personable foreign exchange student from Germany, Gisela Schlaich. For our final Homecoming we chose Ginny Stevens as our queen. Our float, It 'Sno Use, Tomah, featured a giant snowman with movable arms and captured third place. Our hilarious class play entitled The Happiest Days of Your Life was a great success. It was under the direction of Mr. Mont Marquette and Kathy Law- ler. Our class had two members on the cheerleading squad for our last three years. They were Lana Heasty and Kathy O'Connel1. Our class has been very well represented in all extra-curricular activities, including all sports, band, chorus, forensics, and all the others. The class of '59 extends sincere thanks to all the teachers who have done such a wonderful job as our advisors throughout our years in Sparta High School. 2 - A1 . Our class officers are: President--Ray Hawkins, Vice President--Dale Norrhup, Secretary--Carol Heilman, Treasurer--Carol Kirchoff. We were very proud to have an underclassman, Jeff Biel, as the Student Council vice -president. Our Student Council representatives for this year were Judy Herrman, Ray Hawkins, Gloria Moses, Barbara Williams, Dee Carlisle, and Dale Northup. We were also represented in cheerleading by Donna lsensee and Colleen Heasty. We again elected representatives to meet with the class officers. They are: Dee Carlisle, Donna Isensee, Bob Stremcha, Joanne Wegner, Jeanette Wegner, Bob Ottum, Barbara Williams, Jim Field, Marcia Schmitz, and Frank Dolejsi. We were especially proud of our float for this year's Homecoming parade, which took second place, It was beautifully constructed of a huge white cross, with the theme -- The only Victory that counts. We would like to express our thanks to our advisors, Miss Douglas, Mr. Blank, Miss Murphy, Mr. Nerby, Miss Behrens, and Mr, Wedderkop. With their help we feel we had our second successful year at Sparta High School. 4-0 nil DSI IZQQQI IQQSWR !HQCQi DECKS! IHIKQCH IQQQ . -T Q PQJAWQ ell Sl Hill!!
