Superintendent? Message To the Class of 1959 At commencement time 1959 you will hear something like this, We have come again to that part of the school year which is looked forward to with much anticipation on the part of studems and faculty members. The above, of course, could well be the beginning of the diploma presentation. Yes, it is an important event, lt is the beginning, but at the same time, it marks the end of another certain period in your life. Yoimg people, you will find that life is truly a series of beginnings and endings. So long as you are acwrs on the stage of life you will find your- self playing at the last showing of one play only to start rehearsals for the next. There will always be some unfinished tasks for you. Keep that undefeated spirit which is within the heart of every liberty-loving individual and keep the faith which the fathers before you had in democracy, that we may emerge into a new age with all the righ1s and privileges that should be accorded to men and women with a heritage of ideals and freedom. It is my sincere wish that during your short stay at Sparta Area Schools you have accumu- lated the wisdom and spirit to live today with your fullest eEort--because today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. Out of your todays you build your own reccrd. We feel certain that that record is going to be a good one. Sincerely, .7sK0,,1,f

The dedication of this Annual is of unique significance. This, the thirty-Silfth edition of the Spartan , pays tribute to an educator who has devoted thirty-six years to the cause of public education and to the education of thousands of school children in the state of Michigan To have spent thirty-six years in this profession, first as a high school principal and then as a superinten- dent, and to have served well in this capacity, requires a person of integrity, of loyalty, and of devotion. Mr. Del-Iart has impressed those whom he has served as a man of these qualities. Mr. DeHart, we, the graduating class of 1959, consider it a privilege to dedicate this, the thirty-sixth Spartan Annual to you, our friend and educator upon the completion of this, your thirty-sixth year of profes- sional service to the public schools in Michigan. We hope that you may enjoy good health and gratifying re- wards as you continue to meet the challenges in your profession. The Senior Class of 1959

PrincipaI's Message I Fa' most teachers and students, gaduatlon is a time of mixed emotions, A tinge of regret may come when we realize that the unusual talents, skills, and abilities of some students will no longer be playing a part in the life of our school. 'I'here is always pride in goals attained, satisfaction with achievements made, and the excitement of special events and ceremonies. For many studenis, perhaps for the Brst time, the questlon What comes after graduation? refuses to go unanswered any longs, and brings with it a host of related thoughts. Even after deciding what comse to follow, misgivingsand doubts creep in, demanding attention. Be of good cheer! You will find that regardless of where the funn-e may take you, be it college, factory, ocEBce, a home ocf your own or the armed forces, the basic rules of the game remain unchanged. You will make or lose friends, be praised or criticized, succeed ca' fail, and be happy or sad for the same old reasons you have known or should lmve learned during your school life. If you still havenlt learned them-start now. Good Luck. Sincerely, James Gardner
