CLASS OF 1957 The class of T957 first converged on Sparrows Point High School in the fall of 1953, and after suffering an initial awe at the size of the place we gradually settled down to a routine. We soon heralded our arrival by making a sweeping victory in the annual Halloween Festival, when under the guidance of Miss Craven we made our first of many big impressions. We went on to gain an unheard of success with the reco'd smashing minstrel show again directed and produced under the guidance of Miss Craven. This event filled the auditorium to capacity, which was quite an accomplishment for an eighth grade class. The following year saw the beginning of half sessions for the junior high school, and the resulting headaches for us, We were separated, disorganized, and unable to meet together as a class, all of which clearly caused president Skip Strasbaugh unprecedented problems. Nevertheless we survived, having blazed two trails through the ninth grade to a hard won reunification in the tenth. As sophomores, president George Hellems had to work hard to overcome the indifference and lethargy which were legacies of the old half session days in junior high school. Choice of a class project sharply divided the class-so much so that the final choice of new curtains for the auditorium never did reach the stage of fruition. We certainly did entertain great ambitions in those days. By the end of the year somewhat of the old spirit began to return as evidenced by a very successful prom, Blue Mrage, As juniors we again won the Halloween Festival giving junior president Charles Darby a vote of confidence for his duties of leadership ahead. Defeat on junior-senior day dampened our spirits temporarily, but we recovered sufficiently to organize the beautiful and immensely successful prom, Aloha. lt was about this time that we knew for certain that we would be privileged to be the first graduating class of a new and bigger Sparrows Point High School and appropriately enough again revived the auditorium curtain project. Then there we were-seniors, the top class, and in a bright new school building. Furthermore we would go down in history as the first of many graduating classes to commence from all of this modern opulence. At times, though we might think nostalgically of the old building and events there, we would never wish to return after once having had the luxury of the new. Our only regret was that the succeeding classes could not have shared this experience of moving from the old to the new and hence have developed a similar appreciation, one in which we feel we are unique . . . ,s l . jk 'K 117-3 5 9 ff tif vi 'ILA 8 MRS.
