We hope that this book will always remain to help keep the memory of our years together at Sparland High School with you. DEDICATION We, the Senior C1ass,take great pleasure in presenting the annual of 1951-1952 to a most deserving person, Frank Bryden. A Mr. Bryden has been our genial bus driver .for the past thirteen years. He has faithfully seen us to and from school, he has furnished his time in taking us to ballgames and to many other school activities. He has an outstanding personality, and a great sense of responsibility and fairness. Mr. Bryden, we hope that you will accept our little token as thanks for what you have done to help enrich our lives. It is only a small portion of the thanks you deserve. SUPERINTENDENT E. B. JONES Western Illinois State College, University of Missouri University of Illinois, M.A. To many students, their graduation brings forth delu- sions of the end of books and studying. Ironically, your education has just begun, high school being merely a mile- stone on the road of life. If we the faculty of Sparland High School have contributed in a small measure toward helping you cope with the dif- ferent tests and problems of life, then we feel that our work has been successful. Good luck! Class of 1952, your four years in Sparland High! School have had a lasting part in the building of a better school for those who follow you as well as the school having a lasting ef- fect on you and your future. Your motto, NToday Decides Tomorrow,H could not be bet- ter chosen. We are build- ing our lives from day to day. Each day is one stone in the building of life. No stone nor deed can be re- moved and still the final structure at the end of life be complete. Let us build each day so tomorrow will be a reflection of the today of which we will be proud. Lewie's sincere will to win, his drive and great competitive spirit will long be remember- ed bv Snarland fans. ALLEN DAVIS Abbie's one handed push shot made many competitors grey. His exhibition in the Henry game brought the house down. We're looking for great things from him next year. Abbie was second behind our captain in field goals and total points. HERMAN HARNETT A cool head in any situation makes 3 Herman tough at all times. His defensive ability made him one of the best in the Tri-County. Great things should come from Herman next year. T-nl WENDELL HOSKINS WindyTs floor play, coolness, and deception pulled us through to victory on many occasions. His ability to use either hand equal- ly well makes him one of the hardest to hold down. Windy is another junior who is expected to burn up the count next year. ROBERT BENNETT Bob's rebounding kept us in the thick of battle in every game. .le has that knack to be at the right place at the right time, We expect a great deal from Rob next year. WILLIAM SPICIQ The most improved player on the squad, Hill has come a long way and there is no telling where he'll stop., Bill's rebounding is really something to watch, Watch him go next year. - JOHN CURRY Big John, the only freshman on the first ten, let everyone know that he'll be out to break all records in the years to come. John is learn- ing and growing fast so keep your eves on him. JIM MATTINGLY HPoodleH can get into more people's hair with a basketball than anyone we know. Jim may be the smallest on the squad, but dynamite comes in small packages. He has two years to go and they won't be unnoticed. ROBERT GRISWOLD nGrizn although never quite able to reach the starting line up, had his heart in every game just as much if not more than anyone else. JAMES APPEL uTonyn was one of the quietest guys around, but always in there with everything he had. The Sparland F.F.A. boys participated in the !Section S and tri-County Livestock Judging Contest fwhich was held at Bradford and Wyoming April Eh, Ql9S2. A day we looked forward to was getting to play at Dekalb, broadcasting over the radio. It was much fun. All band students who won at the district contest went to the state contest at Vacomb. Jeanne Wallace won first in a baton solog Beverly Jones and Jeanne Wallace, first in a baton duetg Bob Griswold, Bob Bennett, and Lloyd Russell, first in a cornet triog Carolyn Webber and Beverly Jone first in a saxaphone duet.
