PROCTER R. HUG and to this school. Our Superintendent has, through his sincere guidance and interest in the wel- fare of the students, won the respect and honor of all. Superintendent Hug is truly a grand person, and a sincere friend of all those associating with him in any way. He is always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a word of advice to any student confiding in him. The future holds in store for Sparks a new High School, and, with the completion of this task, we sincerely hope Mr. Hug will continue his excellent work as an advisor, counselor and friend. Pwlagcce Look through this keyhole! This entrance should be familiar. Most of you have entered through this door for three years. On the other side of these portals you have found knowledge, companionship, and some of the most pleasant memories in your life. As you graduate, you leave behind you many of these memories. We hope that this Tefminus will be the Keyhole to Memories. When you are reminiscing, take a peek into this keyhole, and you should recall many pleasant recollections. We hope many pleasant thoughts will result. That has been the aim of this year's Tefminzu staff. Two of the most important projects accomplished by the School Board this past year were the consolidation of the outlying districts of North Truckee and Vista into the Sparks School district, thereby greatly increasing the area covered by the Sparks District, and secondly, work on the much awaited new Senior High school has finally been .-'1,..,.-- ' W ,..,,..' -K ,M-swf pnmnfwf' started. Through the constant effort of the Board, bids for the new build- ings were let early in 1951, and actual construction work started soon after. In addition to these activities, the Board handled all the financial matters of the school system, such as paying the teachers and approving the budget. Sparks High is truly proud of its School Board and the good job that they have done to help promote general harmony. PRESIDENT-Mrs. Agnes Risley C37 PROCTER R. HUG SUPERINTENDENT EDWIN F. Yes, the junior class of 1952 has made their grand entrance. While they are not yet the high and mighty Seniors, they are no longer the lowly Sophomores. Yes, they are the Middleclassmen- Middleclassmen long-to-be-remembered after they pass out of high school on the long road of Life. As we look back over the records of this junior class, we see that one junior boy, jack Milroy, passed on to a better life through service to his country in the National Guard. In the field of sports we see that Marvin Baker Ray Brookman, Louie Heltzel, Dick Herman, Dave Miller, Ed Miller, Tom Rich and Maurice Wright were juniors who showed genuine interest by earning football letters. juniors on the varsity squad in basketball were Marvin Baker, Tom Rich, john Brooke, Maurice Wright, Paul Lepori, Louie Heltzel. Jayne Williams and Carolyn Webber showed their sports' enthusiasm by their peppy yells. Karin Ross shouted orders to the Drill Team when the Head captain could not be present. We hear the echoes of the Junior Class dying out now, and as we leave these few pages, we realize that nothing was complete without the juniors to help. We really look up to you-Class of '52. The juniors and Seniors were amused by the antits and costumes displayed by the Sopho- niores at their initiation. In the field of dramatics, the Sophs dis- played their interest and ability by taking part in various skits and plays. Using Aff i'tf In lVY!UIdt'P'!!1IIdH as their theme, the Sophomores presented the Hop of SO in an auditorium covered with yellow streamers. Placards representing the different characters adorned the walls. Although the Sophomores did not place any- one on the varsity basketball team, they made an excellent showing on the B squad. The class of '53 could never have been such a success without the help and advice given by Mae Denevi and Vincent Keele, their advisors. 'Zine S Girls' Block S is an organization composed of girls who have been outstanding in the activities and sports of the Girls' Athletic Association. Every G. A. A. girl sets as her goal the attainment of membership in this honor society. Membership in the Block S is gained by girls who earn 800 points. On the basis of these points they are admitted to membership and awarded their letter. They must earn 400 points to be eligible for a gold and maroon sweater, upon which they wear a service stripe for each year of active participation. W 1 W3 Faye' 2604.6 S This year the Block S honorary athletic society has come out of comparative inactivity to be a very worthwhile organization. A new constitution was drawn up and adopted and officers were elected. The Constitution specifies the qualifications for entry into the society and sets down the frequency of meeting, time of elections, etc. The Block S held its first dance this year after the annual football banquet, and it is hoped that it too will become an annual affair. The characteristic mark of the society is a gold block S with a maroon back- ground mounted on a maroon sweater. Only members of the Block are privileged to wear a Block S sweater. The Block S has been lifted from a dormant stage to its rightful place among active school organizations, and we hope that the members after us will see fit to keep it there and regard being 21 member as an honor and a privilege. Under his able leadership, the Glee Club presented several programs during the year. With nearly forty girls participating, the programs were considered a great success. Among the programs enjoyed by the people and students of our community were the Christmas Carols at the Annual Student Christmas Party, the variety program at the December Parent Teachers' Meeting, and the Annual Choral Festival in Reno in which Sparks competed with outlying schools. The appropriate selections at the Baccaluareate and Commencement exercises this year received high praise from their audiences. The members of this con- vention include outstanding junior students from the various high schools of the State. The primary purpose of the event is to enable the boys to better understand their government and how it operates by adtually taking part in its various functions. It also enables the boys from the various schools to become better acquainted. In addition to the political activities are other events such as athletics, newspaper work, music, speaking, short plays and further activities which make it a full week of activity and enjoyment. At the end of the week, two outstanding boys are chosen to represent their state later in the year at Boys' Nation. The whole program is under the able supervision of Mr. john Martie, who should be highly complimented for his work on the project. This program is perhaps the finest that could be offered to a boy of high school age. All boys who have a chance to, should without a doubt, plan to attend. The cast was well chosen and well directed by Merle Singleton as was proven by the appreciation shown by the audiences on both nights the play was presenetd. Besides this cast much credit must be given to those behind the scenes who did their share as stage managers, electricians, prompters, makeup men, wardrobe girls, property men, publicity manager and usherettes. After the final performance of the play, all those who assisted in any way with the presentation of the play met at the home of one of the troupe for a party sponsored by junior Masquers. This is what the eleven senior girls with the highest scholastic averages for three years of high school wondered about when they attended the P.E.O. Sisterhood Banquet. The theme of the dinner was a Hand of Frierzdfbipf' and those girls receiving the little yellow gloves of friendship were: Laurel Osmun, Eileen Beardall, Vera Herta, Elizabeth Scruggs, Nancy Moore, Phyllis Whitaker, Lupe Rodriguez, Donna Naef, Thelma Woolcock, jo Ann Whitehead, and Ellen Perry. Lovely corsages of white and yellow adorned each girl's shoulder as they sat with the members of Chapters E and I at the white and yellow decorated table.
