Swenson will lead a group of better than average vaulters while Bytheway, Fullmer, Jameson and Smith should garner points in the weights. l XVith these stars merely afs a nucleus and a field of new material, , prospects for a successful season look very favorable. i l LaMar Fullmer won the gold watch given to the all-around cham- pion, at the B.Y.U. Invitation Track and Relay Carnival. x . 1.A:1: 1 r:rff:r:r: 2:2:s:r:2:22222225552555225255 rii 'r1r:rrr:1-r:.-, 5 r,i .,,,...,.,., r.,.rr, ,-,i 5 . , .AJ ATHLETICS SUMMARY FOOTBALL TEAM Witll but five lettermen returning for the 1933 football squad Coach Fenton Reeve sounded the call for the fall sport, which was happily answered. The team led by Captains Bytheway and Swenson was Prob- ably the strongest offensive team in the district, yet slightly weak on defense. They climaxed a grueling season, by tying Springville, district champions, in the final game of the season. Regular Team: Glenden Bytheway, Frank Swenson, Frank Argyle. Phil Smart, LaMar Fullmer, Reed Hughes, Manuel Clayson, Allan Fran- cis, Sterling Olsen, Don Larson, Dewey Jameson, Mark Smith and Ray Brooks. BASKETBALL Viewing the 1934 basketball season from the standpoint of a cham- pionship team is rather disheartening, but looking at it from the stand- point for which it was originated-sportsmanship and fair play-it has been highly successful. The major purpose, that of developing as manv skilled competitors in each event as possible, has truly been accomplished. Winning games is only a secondary goal to promote the first. Although the team didn,t come out on top, it had fight till the end and should be considered as one of the best teams that has represented our school. Regular Team: LaMar Fullmer, Phil Smart, Glade Anderson, Frank C. Argyle, Dewey Jameson, Glenden Bytheway, and Mark Smith. GIRLS' BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL For some years the girls of the various classes have competed in basketball and baseball. These girls, competitive sports, however, have been gradually emerging from their inter-class status until recently they have attained inter-scholastic proportions. The Spanish Fork girls set up an excellent record in their games with Provo, Payson, Springville and other towns. Now that an amendment has been added to the constitution giving a letter to the regular members of the girls' baseball and basketball teams, still greater interest will be taken in these sports. TENNIS Although the court at the High School was built only a year ago, Spanish Fork racqueters are gradually pushing themselves into the lime- light of county and state tennis meets. With the interest which is now taken in this sport, Spanish Fork High School should produce some county or even state tennis champions in the near future. 4 X' - ......., S ,.,..
