Have you lived, while you have been with us, in such a way that we regret to see you go, or have you been satisfied to just get by? Will we remember you for the good influence which you have made us feel, or will we wish to forget you for your indifferent attitude? Wfill you wield such a positive influence in your community, that in the years to come we will want to claim you as our product, or will we never hear your name praised for what you are? Have you learned to appreciate the good and the beautiful, or are your manners and taste coarse and vulgar? Can you stand on your own feet and accept the responsibilities of life with courage and hope, or are you going to be a yes-yesv number who is waived by every little breeze? Grade yourself and see whether you receive an Av or an UE . Take inventory and see what are your assets and your liabilities. Your school and your community have invested heavily in you, and We hope our investment is safe. LOREN A. Trmzwrvr Officer At last we have attained our long sought for goal-that of being Mighty Seniorslv Two years ago al, green, insignificant Sophomores, we were rather meek and shy, alwai anticipating the time when we would be the Flighty Juniors, so tha could laugh and poke fun at the Sophomores. However, as Soph,s, xjvere not entirely asleep. Four of our class were in the Opera, and our bl isiialso starred in athletics. Then came our Junior year, one fille ifiqirh social activities, enthus- iasm and hard work. During this year 1, re well represented in all school activities: Athletics, dramatics, open ' d typewriting. In spite of the fact that we lost Junior Day, ar was truly a lively, happy one. 1 Last, but not least, came our good ol' Senicimj yi . Our achievements of '33-'34 have been numerous and really wort w le. Our ability has been displayed in practically all student activitie ' A 052, Senior Play was indeed a real success. Wfe were also well represen d inifhe school play. All but one of the cast of the Opera were Seniors, Q d the plot was also written by a Senior. The football squad consisted of A acticallv all Senior boys. The basketball team was entirely Seniors, and we ere shining stars in track. XVe also did our share in girlls athletics. The estock judging team, consisting of three Seniors, won us national honor at d fame. And another thing, the Seniors turned the tables again on the Ju 'ors, making it another Senior Dayf' it In saying farewell to Spanish Fork High we recognize and ag preciate all that our school has done for us. During the past two years they have accomplished much but are still some distance from their goal. Cooperation has been their greatest achievement. They have cooperated as a class to establish a set unity with the faculty and student body. This class has been ably repre- sented in both the opera and the school play and hopes to set an enviable record in athletics. Although the Junior Class met defeat on Junior day, they are de- termined to Win next year's fracas. y XVith these views in mind the Junior Class is ready to push ahead for advancement of themselves, their class, and their school. , 25 ,- -W , .11.1 55i3125i54i::Qi::ii-1 '5-ETii ::,Z iiiii3l'iii.5i35l2.i1. They have the cream of the school, and the ideals are high. Have you ever stopped to think of all the activities the mem- bers of this class have entered into? There were sophomores in the school play, there is a liberal sprinkling of sophomores in the opera, sophomore boys were out for track and spring football, and many a sophomore girl caused a Senior to direct his gaze in her direction. The school will receive nothing but Whole-hearted cooperation from the class of '3 6. We'll do our best To show the rest just what a soph can be. It may be thought we're not so hot, But you just Wait and see! The Sophomore bunch I've got a hunch Will surely lead the Way. They've got the stuff and that,s enough, To excel in Work and play. At last one of the dreams of S. F. H. S. has been realized with the publication of our first real year book in twelve years. In order to insure the financial success of our venture, subscriptions and advertisements Were sold before actual Work started on the book. This enabled the staff to get a close estimate of the type of a book it could pay for. To give impetus to the year book movement, it has been l necessary to cut down the issues of Q'Flashes to only four instead of the usual seven or eight, and the same staff has handled both publications. It is believed that, if the year book can once become established on a firm foundation, it will continue to be published annually Without sacrificing the school paper. As members of the staff We hope that this year book will create in you a desire for a bigger and better one next year. , L as f N .- n Y ' 0, . They exhibited live stock in six fairs which included two in Cali- fognia. They also won the Utah State Championship in judging. I-if! William Swenson, J. Fred Skinner, and Arthur McKell represented Utah in the National Judging Contest at Kansas City, and won fourth as a team in livestock judging and second in judging cuts of meat. Wil- liam Swenson ranked second high in judging and received a S200 scholar- ship to any Agricultural College in America. The Union Pacific Scholarship for outstanding work in agriculture was awarded to J. Fred Skinner with William Swenson as alternate. Their F.F.A. Ball, annual program, and Father and Sons banquet were outstanding. Mr. Skinner and our local F.F.A. chapter certainly deserve the ap- preciation of the student body for the honors they have brought Spanish Fork High School' ORIGINAL QPERAS Four entirely original operas, Estralita, Jewel of Wof' Mayan Gold, and Egyptian Lullaby, have been presented in four successive years. Each has brought increasing fame and honor to the school. May- an Cwoldf, especially received wide publicity by being presented not only here and at Provo, but also at the U.E.A. convention in Salt I.ake City. Work each year has become more completely originalg Egyptian Lullabyv in every detail was planned by the students of the various de- partments. Spanish Fork High School claims the distinction of being the only high school in America to consistently create, develop, and produce its own opera. Gunboat XVilliams,,' the famous prizefighter, after many trials and difficulties, finally reconciled himself to the sophisticated English life of the Burroughs family. ' The fine coaching of Miss Partridge and the Cooperation of the stu- dent body also helped to make this production an outstanding one. SENIOR PLAY t'Cat-O-Nine Tails, a mystery play, presented by a very capable Senior cast certainly held the audience spellbound from start to finish. The Cat even hypnotized Theodora and baffled the detective in order to carry out his fiendish plans, but was finally captured by the guest, while the rest of the characters were being terrorized. The play was very successful during its three presentations and only goes to show what the seniors can do. DEBATING CLUB Organized October 31, 1933. Officers: Ray Brooks, President, Wesley Roper, Vice President, Marie Adamson, Secretary, Albert Kings- ford, Treasurer, Miss Partridge, Adviser. Competing team, June Hodge, Erank Swenson, Keith XVilde, Faye Thomas, Grace Stahmann, Lavinia Ludlow. EL AMICO The El Amigo Club leaves behind it a most commendable record. The willingness and the enthusiasm with which its members have sup- ported all school activities have helped to make this year a most successful one for all concerned. HOME ECONOMICS CLUB Although organized only last year, the Home Economics Club this year became affiliated with the national organization. Their activities were both numerous and beneficial. Their Christmas project was especially successful. Their 1933-34 officers were Margaret Marcusen, Lillian Bradford, Margaret Bell and Donna Halverson. TYPEWRITING TEAM The type team made a splendid showing in this years COntCStS. Dis- trict contest: Both teams first with highest average ever made in this district. Intermountain contest Cfour states representedj : Ann Skinner third as individual typist, combination of first and second year teams second. Such a record is assurance of still greater achievements. BAND New instruments, new uniforms, new music, participation in the B.Y.U. Swenson will lead a group of better than average vaulters while Bytheway, Fullmer, Jameson and Smith should garner points in the weights. l XVith these stars merely afs a nucleus and a field of new material, , prospects for a successful season look very favorable. i l LaMar Fullmer won the gold watch given to the all-around cham- pion, at the B.Y.U. The team led by Captains Bytheway and Swenson was Prob- ably the strongest offensive team in the district, yet slightly weak on defense. They climaxed a grueling season, by tying Springville, district champions, in the final game of the season. Regular Team: Glenden Bytheway, Frank Swenson, Frank Argyle. Phil Smart, LaMar Fullmer, Reed Hughes, Manuel Clayson, Allan Fran- cis, Sterling Olsen, Don Larson, Dewey Jameson, Mark Smith and Ray Brooks. BASKETBALL Viewing the 1934 basketball season from the standpoint of a cham- pionship team is rather disheartening, but looking at it from the stand- point for which it was originated-sportsmanship and fair play-it has been highly successful. The major purpose, that of developing as manv skilled competitors in each event as possible, has truly been accomplished. Winning games is only a secondary goal to promote the first. Although the team didn,t come out on top, it had fight till the end and should be considered as one of the best teams that has represented our school. Regular Team: LaMar Fullmer, Phil Smart, Glade Anderson, Frank C. Argyle, Dewey Jameson, Glenden Bytheway, and Mark Smith. GIRLS' BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL For some years the girls of the various classes have competed in basketball and baseball. These girls, competitive sports, however, have been gradually emerging from their inter-class status until recently they have attained inter-scholastic proportions. The Spanish Fork girls set up an excellent record in their games with Provo, Payson, Springville and other towns. Now that an amendment has been added to the constitution giving a letter to the regular members of the girls' baseball and basketball teams, still greater interest will be taken in these sports. TENNIS Although the court at the High School was built only a year ago, Spanish Fork racqueters are gradually pushing themselves into the lime- light of county and state tennis meets. With the interest which is now taken in this sport, Spanish Fork High School should produce some county or even state tennis champions in the near future. 4 X' - ......., S ,.,..
