iu He VII EMMA LEE ROUSE Assistant Editor JOAN HARPER Business Manager JUDY JOHNSON Editor-in-Chief We, of the yearbook staff, have worked steadily for many months to produce this volume of the SO-WO. Within these pages we have tried to record in word and picture those persons and events that were a part of our total school program during the 1960-1961 school year. We hope that, not only at the present but in the years to come, this book will be a treasured keepsake and that it will recall many happy memories. In special recognition of your unselfish interest in student welfare, your loyalty to your student and teacher associates, and the wisdom of your understanding counsel, we dedicate this seventh volume of the SO-WO to you, Mrs. Edward Phillips. May it be a memorial to your worthy aims and high endeavors. As the years pass, memories begin to fade, faces change, and personalities become dif- ferent. Certainly any recording of our present self will hold the charm of the past in a very few decades. To record one ' s childhood memories and to let this continue through adulthood is the best known way to keep alive those cherished moments. So, this annual must record a portion of this life and as we look back upon it, we could not help but remember our wonderful associations. MR. HENRY H. BULLOCK MR. ELMER WOOTEN MR. FORREST WALLER Superintendent Chairman An understanding for the led of those who lead them incurs more harmonious and efficient production for both - thus we find affection for our school, respect for its regu- lations and requirements, and faith in the future it offers us. MR. ALBERT JOHNSON MR. JARMAN BECTON MR. KEITH WILLIAMS MR. EARL KINSEY MR. LEWIS SMITH MR. LYNWOOD TURNER Directing, disciplining, differentiating - the members of our administration etch our futures. Though many students never meet the administrative staff personally, their names and their deeds are familiar to all of us. Somehow, this slight contact, though highly impersonal, serves to reveal much of the quality of our leaders and thus to im- press upon us the dignity of their position, respect for their authority, and knowledge of their capability. The five freshmen, four sophomores, and four juniors are selected each spring on the basis of achieving the highest averages in their respective EMMA LEE ROUSE KAY RIVENBARK RITA JOHNSON classes. The junior student who has the highest average serves as chief marshal. These students serve as ushers at commencement and at other functions throughout the school year. JERRY ROUSE The main objective of the Library Club for 1960-1961 is to improve the library service of the school. As student librar- ians, they perform much of the routine work of the library such as checking books in and out, repairing and shelving books, filing periodicals and newspapers, and keeping the library in an orderly arrangement. We, the stu- dents, appreciate their efforts in our behalf so that we may have a comfortable place of our own to forget ourselves, so to speak, in the world of printed page and picture.
