At Southwood Voicing support, Ms. Lenora Brock, Mrs. Datha Hopkins, Mrs. Barbara Riley, Mrs. Verdis Pruitt, Mrs. Jan Connell, Mrs. Cheryl Vowell, Mrs. Jeanette Shelton, Mrs. Sandra Jordan, Mrs. Evelyn Douglas, Mrs. Ann Osment, Mrs. Marvalyn Henderson, and Mrs. Vera Head show Southwood’s number — one. The word cinch stirs an especially significant meaning in the hearts of all generations and all kinds of cowboys, in particular those who, at one time or another, have roamed the halls of Southwood. One interpretation describes a strong girth used to secure a pack or saddle on a horse. Other definitions include any firm hold or grip and anything sure and easy. Just as the cinch secures the saddle to the horse, students have a firm hold on winning attitudes. “Everyone wants to succeed,” says Heath McCullough. Whether academics, extracurricular activities, sports, or loyalties. Pokes have them cinched. “That’s what makes Southwood what it is,” remarked Lori Binderim. This winning attitude filters within each student until all en¬ deavors seem easy. Just ask any Cowpoke. Will Southwood come out on top? “Of course we will. This is Southwood,” says Joely Jinks. It’s a cinch! To Cowpokes Alan Shadow, Deanna Newman, Stephanie Jackson, and Kalan Wash- ington, the word cinch means only one thing: a strong girth to secure a saddle on a horse.
