CamcImL 1 i - 1 Roemer Places ©on With one of the highest illiteracy rates, Lou¬ isiana faced its greatest challenge of recent his¬ tory: raising standards of education. Outside Southwood, die prices of clothes, dates, and car insurance emptied pockets of teenagers. At the same time, costs rose within the school: locker prices doubled, lunches increased to sev¬ enty-five cents, and game rickets soared to three dollars. Pressured to keep up with jobs as well as studies, students found that reality demands a tight cinch. Counting money for game tickets requires concentration frot Craig Ross.
