The year 1981 ushered in many urgent emergencies. President Reagan survived an assassination attempt by John Henkley. Not only the President survived an assassination attempt, but the Pope survived one also. It seems 1981 was a year of gunshots. For¬ tunately, they were poorly placed gunshots, or we may have had a different president in office at this time. The Libyans attempted to show their supremacy in the air by trying to shoot down two American jets. But. all they ended up proving was our supremacy in the world of aerodynamics. Let us hope that the year 1982 ushers in a world of trust, peace, and freedom. ASSASSINATION ATT E M PT no. 1 John Henkley . ? rvo. 2. , — ' 82 ROUNDUP

The year 1981 has been a year full of enjoyment and great satisfaction. It is a year when the proud students of Southwood High School have seen their football team go undefeated through the regular season. Southwood has also adopted a new school crest. The year 1981 gave pleasure and enjoyment in many dif¬ ferent ways. For some it was working. For still others it was curling up with a good book or watching television. No matter how these people spent their best of times, one thing is for sure — Cowboy spirit will remain undaunted till the end of time. And as long as there is time, the students of Southwood High School will continue to have fun.

Senior; what a glorious word. It seems to mark the beginning of a new age. One of parties and no parents watching your every move. But, it also symbolizes the coming of adulthood and the decisions that go along with it. As a student moves from his freshman to senior year, he is expected to ac¬ cept increasing responsibility for himself, for his school, and his com¬ munity. School is a major part in preparing us for the civilized world out¬ side the campus. It is hoped that the seniors plan for their futures and decide what will be best for them in the long run. College for some, while others may go straight to work. It is up to us to look inside ourselves and make the decision that will be right. Remember, we are America’s greatest natural resource. We are the hope for tomorrow. We make the impossibilities of today the realities of the future. Thus to us the legacy of leadership shall pass.
