Still Changing Still Changing is the best phrase to summarize the state of things and things to come at Southwood High School. Why? Because when Southwood opened in the fall of 1969, there were 1,867 students and 105 teach¬ ers. The students’ loyalty was divided among the different schools they had previously attended. Only the mam building existed, and it was surrounded by woods. Gradually, those woods gave way to temporary buildings and the Learning Center. The parking lot was expanded. And those divided loyalties soon merged to become the Spirit of the Southwood Cow boy. Now, Southwood has 2,493 students and 135 teachers. Southwood High is respected and looked up to by other schools in the community. Still, after ten years, Southwood has maintained its high standards of teaching, learning, winning, cheering and leading, and in the process has learned to laugh, be creative, be friends, and have a loyalty to Southwood and what it stands for. Therefore, ' ’Still Changing is not merely a theme, it is a state of being. Southwood is still work¬ ing hard to mold our youth into the leaders of tomor¬ row, to provide us with brighter futures, and to pro¬ duce for us wonderful memories of our tenth year. 4 Anniversary Edition ROUNDUP 80
