Southwood — An Environment of Transition The 1977-78 school year began with an ava¬ lanche of changes. Most were easily visible — a new shell parking lot, more temporary build¬ ings — changes to help house the 2,500 stu¬ dents who were trying to cram into a school designed for 1,500. Mr. Jewell Wagner replaced Or. J. E. Turner as principal. Schedul¬ ing problems abounded because of a new required course in free enterprise. But even ' cnidst these changes, Southwood continued to make progress; the process of learning con¬ tinued.

Change — The Foundation of the Future Change — as inevitable as the ageless dawn — rippling through life in quiet moments, stretching out across a timeless span in an effort to capture tomorrow, reaching all things by simply being. No matter what path we choose to follow, the frightening presence of change will always be with us, following close behind, manipulating our every move. Change takes many forms; not every change begins in silence. Some changes are launched with a bang and progress rapidly for a time, but these only affect the surface — it is the slow, silent, patient change that remains and remolds the world. The constancy of change is our only link to the past; change itself is our only key that will fit the leek of ignorance on the door to our future.
