CAMPUS CHRONOLOGY The Old Williamson County Science Building. 1870-71 Georgetown college building erected at present site of junior high school, original campus. 1873 Georgetown announced as site of consolidated Methodist university, uniting Rutersville, Wesleyan, McKenzie and Soule colleges. Classes began. 1875 Southwestern University chartered by State of Texas. 1879 Young Ladies School completed, four blocks from original campus. 1886 Construction began on men ' s dormitory, Giddings Hall, on original campus. 1887 Ladies Annex cornerstone laid - first building on new campus (present location of Southwestern University campus). 1898 Cornerstone laid for Administration Building. 1906 Cornerstone laid for men ' s dormitory, Mood Hall. 1917 Williamson County Science Building completed (at present site of Lois Perkins Chapel). 1925-26 Ladies Annex destroyed by fire. New women ' s dormitory built, later named Laura Kuykendall Hall. 1939-40 Cody Memorial Library, Jim West Gymnasium, and Field House constructed. 1950-58 Circle drive installed. Lois Perkins Chapel, Fondren Science Building, McCook-Crain Clinic, Ruter Hall, Brown Swimming Pool, Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center, Bishops Memorial Student Union, and Religious Activities Center built. 1962-66 President ' s home, Kurth Hall, the addition to Cody Memorial Library, University Commons, Herman Brown and Moody -Sliearn residence halls completed. 1976 Sid Richardson Physical Education Center constructed. 11

CAMPUS PLAN Since Georgetown became the site for Southwestern, the campus has slowly evolved to become the beautiful, well-organized campus it is today. President Schilling ' s vision for the university includes many changes that should take place in a relatively short period of time, in order to bring Southwestern to National Maturity and make it rank among the top small universities in the nation.
