Each year seems much the same as the last; Southwestern is given whole to us: the buildings, the professors, the routines, the faces, ourse lves all exist as if in one large photograph of which we learn only the details. And when we do begin to include the backroads and the river, Austin and maybe Adelines into the range of our action these things quickly lose their novelty and come to be just a little more our own. Until Southwestern ceases to be a place it becomes a habit, a way of living. Then we can at least say what is meant by the liberal arts education. For all paper and the print, the sunny days and the Friday nights have become inseparable from us.
