â– n—THTniiiuiwimiin PPLSLINTINC; THE. Southwestern University GEORGETOWN, TEXAS actCcb utd fyeatlevHCKi f Presenting not the most famous s,how of Williamson County, nor yet the most famous show of that great and glorious State, that place where abide the stalwart and the true, the domicile where dwell truth and beauty forever wedded; no, not the greatest show of Texas. This show is much bigger, much grander, much more colossal, even more stupendous than that. Nor yet is this the greatest show in lo, these 48 grand and glorious states that go to comprise that greatest of all great na- tions, the United States of America. No, ladies and gentlemen, this show is greater, much greater, than that. For years the greatest group of technicians, artists, and laborers that has ever been in one place assembled has been working to bring you this extravaganza of extrava- ganzas. Again, let me remind you, this is not of Wil- liamson County, nor of Texas, nor yet of the United States. This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the Greatest Show on Earth! From all the four corners of the earth and from each of the sixteen segments of the compass comes this show. It is quintessence itself seven times purified, so that the resultant quality is a product that would amaze even Mighty Zeus as he quaffs his nectar on olympus. Zeus must, perforce, own himself bettered were he enabled to view this show of shows. And now, Music, Maestro, and let us have lights galore As we present a show that you, one and all, will adore! yOU ARE NOT GOINO, TO RIDE HIH IN THZ. PARADE. ' NOW COME DOWN Dedication We, the staff of the 1954 Sou ' wester, proudly dedicate this annual to the Southwestern Uni- versity Board of Trustees, the tireless group of men who make not only this book, but South- western itself, possible. We offer this annual, in behalf of the stu- dent body, as a tribute to these noble men, who graciously contribute their time, money, and en- thusiasm to our alma mater. We present this annual to these great men in appreciation for their unrewarded effort which they have expended throughout the years of their service to Southwestern, and which they will undoubtedly continue to give gladly, year after year, throughout Southwestern ' s ever brighter future. We give this annual proudly, yet humbly, to these noble men— The Southwestern University Board of Trustees. HOdlfCOdliOG Ofly 1954... Some lucky souls worked out their schedules with no trouble; but most of us felt as though we ' d moved a moun- tain when our regis- tration was complete. The first formal occasion of the year allowed students and faculty to begin friendships out- side the classroom. At get-acquainted parties new students were welcomed, and freshmen began to under- stand why Southwestern stu- dents are famous for their sin- cere friendliness. Though some people have other opinions, we really did come to college to get an education. Hard study during the week helped us to enjoy weekends of fun and relaxation. Broadway has nothing on our drama department. Remember their presentation of Twelfth Night. Music has long played an im- portant part in the lives of Southwestern ' s students. Long hours of practice perfected our orchestra. Whether it was providing pep at our basketball games, or en- tertaining us in assembly, the band was always on beat with a neat sheet. The singing of Carols at Christmas time draws people together in a true spirit of Christian fel- lowship. This show is too huge, too super cosmic, too utterly gigantic in all its manifest colossalness to be presented in one act. To do so would be to confuse the con- glomerated brains of all the bards from Shakespeare to Thornton Wilder of Our Town fame. They would utterly fail in their attempt to present this show on one stage, in one ring. Thus, we have divided it up into three glorious rings which we now unveil for your pleasure. 136 A NICKEL FOR PEANUTS OR ELSE, 64LDX! 137 B. A.
