Alpha Chi originated at Southwestern as the Southwestern University Scholar- ship Society in 1915. Later it became organized nationally and the name was changed to Alpha Chi. Members of the Texas Alpha Chapter, the local society, are elected from among the top or ranking tenth of the junior and senior classes. Its aims are stimulation, development, and recognition of scholarship and character. Membership is considered the highest scholastic honor that can be conferred upon a student of Southwestern. A proposed member of Cardinal Key shall be a student leader of good Dersonality, character and prominence in extra-curricular activities. Her scholarship shall be above that of the average for all women at the insti- tution for the semester preceding initiation. A proposed member shall be of junior standing. Each year a secret faculty com- mittee nominates certain such students from among the junior and senior classes for membership in Who ' s Who. These candidates are approved by Who ' s Who, and members are officially notified of their membership and honor. Each vear Who ' s Who publishes a book entitled Who ' s Who Among Students in American Universi- ties and Colleges, and it is in this volume that the honored students receive their prime recognition.
