The second chamber opera, Down in the Valley , a folk opera by Kurt Weill, was presented at Week- end at College. The action of the musical fantasy took place in the rural area of Alabama, and in the Birmingham jail. Eugene Baker portrayed Brack Weaver and played opposite Kathleen Brantley, who sang the role of Jennie Parsons. Others in the cast included James Riddle as The Leader and The Preacher, James Allen Robinson as Thomas Bouche, Stanley Horwood as The Guard, David Dague as Peters, and Carolyn Longley and Marilyn Miller as Two Women.
