The Library, which has 45,000 volumes, has com- fortable reading rooms conducive to effective study. The Art Department and radio studio are also located here. ,..sa- Sf EI! EDUCATION BUILDING The Education Building, one of the newer buildings, is the home of the Departments of Education, Mathematics, Language Arts, and History. The work of the Future Teachers of America is cen- tered around this building. An extensive Student Teaching program is offered by Southwestern State College. ff will 3.. They are utilizing the spaciousness of this building for their band practices and its new title is the Band Hall. The pre-clinical students live in the residence at the Oklahoma General Hospital and are transported to Southwestern State College for one year. The students complete 26 college hours in required subjects, such as, Anatomy, Chem- istry and Pharmacology and Social Studies in Southwestern State College. At the same time, they enroll in nursing subjects at the Oklahoma General Hospital School of Nurs- ing. The advancements in nursing are best met by way of thorough knowledge and back- ground for meeting the needs of the patient. During the initiation ceremonies, the college honored members of the Bulldog champion- ship teams of 1925, 1926, 1927, and 1953. Veteran coach Rankin Williams' blue-and-white crew were acclaimed the Oklahoma col- legiate conference Cinderella team of the year. In pre-season polls the Bulldogs were chosen only to finish in fourth or fifth place, but to the surprise of everyone, Williams included, the tiny Southwestern team completed the league season with a record of 11-5 and a co-championship in the circuit.
