It is with a great deal of pride that we pay tribute to all those who have contributed to this distinctive fifty-year achievement. As time goes on, we know that Southwestern will maintain its place as one of the leading educational centers in Oklahoma. Its students, too, will continue to become leaders in their respective fields of endeavor. justifiably, certain phases of the leadership to come will be traced to present-day associations and inspirationsg future growth in the college will be traced to the contributions of many of those who are with us now. That today's students and tomorrow's leaders will regard this year as one of the outstanding years of their education-that these students will cherish the memory of Southwestern-that these pages will help them to remember-this is' our fond hope in presenting your yearbook, the 11954 BULLDOG. I can vividly remember many years ago when I helped to campaign for a certain beauty queen. When we were having her picture taken, the photographer asked if we wanted it mounted but We didn't think she'd look so good on a horse. It was awfully hard to select a beauty just from pictures, but it was a lot of fun trying, My best to you all. Cordially, Q! W ,,, 44 1. . . ,1GL '2 o MHHIIYN IHIKS Wdlfiig Qwm f it. They were undefeated in regular season play. Three seniors inked professional con- tracts after graduation. Eddie Krewall signed with the Oklahoma City Indians and was optioned to Pampa of the West Texas-New Mexico league. Gerald Nipp and Jerry Doyle ioined the Chicago White Sox farm system and were sent to Topeka, Kansas, of the Western As- sociation. CCACH 0F THE YEAR For the second time in three years, Southwestern athletic direc- tor Rankin Williams was named Coach of the Year for 1953 by his fellow mentors of the Oklahoma collegiate conference. The honor came after the Bulldogs won their 'l2th loop title in the last two decades. Earlier in the year, Williams had coached the Southwestern basketball team to co-championship of the Okla- homa collegiate conference, a title which they shared with their arch rivals, the Central Bronchos. The Bulldogs beat Central to win the ninth district NAIA championship and were runners-up in the annual Sunshine tournament at Portales, New Mexico. Williams holds a record unsurpassed by other college or uni- versity coaches in the state. 1953-54 represented his 32nd year as basketball coach at Southwestern and his 29th season as athletic director.
