Dormitories can be places where people meet new people, but even with lots of new and exciting people around some people still get homesick. For some, this means a trip home, for others just a phone call. Some people avoid the problem of homesickness by bringing a little bit of home with them. XM? T rl. Take A Break Oftentimes students have breaks between their to lay down their books for a few minutes is fine. The Union Snack Bar and the Cheff s here on campus seem to attract the most crowds. Who can tell maybe there will be other places for students to go to by next semester. Of course if you have a lot of time on your hands why not spend it in the Union recreation center. The Union bowling lanes are the least expensive anywhere and they also have pool tables and pinball machines. Even if you want to just sit down for a few moments you can do that too. Dormitory Living - An Experience In Itself USL's 13 dormitories house people from every part of the country and every part of the world. Each dorm is like its own separate world. In some of the dorms, the wing a student lives on can become a second home, the residents almost like family. Dorm living provides security for those moving away from home for the first time. There is always someone to talk to and even to help with homework. Though it sounds cliche, dorm life is indeed a chance to meet new people and establish lasting friendships. Dorms encourage team participation and competition within and outside of the dorms. There is a usual sense E -1 pf . .. K ' ir si. ,Q . .. -., . ,, ,. 1, . is K .K , ' Ki- fs. .,. .M . pw . The experiences that dormitory residents encounter are much unlike those of commuters or apartment dwel- lers. Although many dormitory residents may move from their dorm into apartments before completing their school years, they too take with them valuable bits of info and probably a few cherished memories of dorm life. Dorm life is what you make it, but even in one semester you can make it an unforgettable experience. In these next few pages we will see the people who keep the dorms running -the dormitory staffs.
