New Student Union Opened at Last Finally a reality, the new Student Union was opened March 9, 1971 to the people who had paid for it. At first re- jected by the students in May of 1965, the Student Union Committee brought the referendum before the students again in November 1965. The students then voted to assess themselves $10 each regular semester and $5 each summe- semester. Plans were drawn up and approved, groundbreaking held, and eventually construction completed. Then the long awaited official opening took place with ribbon-cut- ting, cake-eating, and crowd-pushing. The Union has facilities for organizational meetings, dances and administrative offices. It also contains a boo k- store, movie theater, art gallery, cafeteria, and snack bar for the use of any student. Faculty member or visitor.
