Table of Contents 1420 W. 12th Street Flint, Michigan 48507 Volume XXIV ‘The Long And Winding Road’ Life can be looked upon as a jour- ney along a road. This journey can be long or short depending on each individual. Some people feel their lives have been very fulfilling with most of their goals and dreams realized. The lives of those in this school are usually looked on as just the beginning. But. no matter how few days, weeks, months, or years we have lived, we have the choice of either drifting through life with very little accomplished or making these few and swiftly passing years count. Some people invest their lives in making the lives of others brighter and in so doing, make their own lives more useful and fulfilling. Others use their lives to help mankind in general, or simply the people in their own world, by using their knowledge, skill, or natural talent in making discoveries, pro- viding entertainment or needed ser- vices. People can do anything they de- sire if they have the determination to overcome the obstacles placed before them. We all have choices, and no mat- ter what we have done with the time we have been given, we can always choose a different method of traveling down our road of life. This book is written to portray the time we have shared, both the fun and exciting and the sad and difficult. Leta Ann Williams Like Wow!!! 4 Opening Like I’m Sure, You Know?! I've had this mondo grody sandwich in here like, all year long and like, when Andrean comes to open me I’m going to say. “like this is getting grizzly!” PREP: Gee Golly! How could you let her do that? I’m getting together a del- egation for this summer’s locker boost- er club. What do you think? VAL: Like I’m sure, don’t be a tubular zod! PUNK: Booster Club? Who really cares? You guys running around here with silly animals on your chests are the only ones! Here I am stuck up here right by the Principal’s office with you conformist pinkos when I’d rather be in the back hall with my comrads. Ya know, I hadn't been used all semester and then Blockhead was in here so much during finals I thought my lock would fall off. VAL: Like, for real. I thought Andrean had forgotten how to read I was so maced out on books until finals. PREP: Well, my books are always used and I’m sure Muffy did excellent all semester and especially on finals. PUNK: Gag me with a spoon, skank out. excellent, blah. blah, blah! Geez. you’d think you were tape recorders. You guys miss all the action! I’m slammed all day: got my supply of safety pins and razors in case of trou- ble, and I’m stuck with you two zom- bies. I bet you (to Val) even want to be a Solid Gold dancer, and you (to Prep) you’ve got a whole wardrobe stashed in you. PREP: Well! In ten years you’ll look back and remember these times and realize how excellent they were, and wish you had signed my memo book. VAL: Like, don’t be bogus! I bought a yearbook, like, okay? Like, did the Skinhead? PUNK: Okay I did. all right? Don’t mess with me! PUNK and VAL: We’ll sign your year- book!!! Tonya Michael Hugan The time I remember most is when John Loper and I put a dead Sucker in Don Hohn’s locker. My most memorable time was at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp when my friend and I were trying to get to the girls cabin and were caught all four times. However, the fifth time we made it. Nora Remember when those guys took us to see the river and there was no water in it? Going to Football games against Cen- tral. Skipping in the back parking lot and going to McDonald’s. Opening night of “Sugar” when B.P. said her famous line: “I can’t help it if my (????) are lopsided.” I remember the time my sister Sue got beat up and I just stood there watching (and laughing). The most memorable time was while Robin Henney and I were at the Valley. We were in crazy moods. We went to The Vogue, Alvins, and even President Tux- edo. We tried on crazy hats, furs, and even tuxs just for the fun of it. We got some strange fun. I’ll never forget Robin. Wendi Loshaw. During practices for “Sugar” two girls remember hiding under the stage and stealing the Orchestra’s instruments. Remember when the three of us mus- kateers decided to skip. We couldn’t de- cide where to go so we just started driv- ing. We ended up at Swartz Creek High School where we met some guys who invited us to a party (do you two remem- ber that party???). We left there and went to Carman; we got lost going to Swartz Creek and again when we went to Carman. That day we had to get gas four times at the same Clark’s but only had change. The attendant thought we were crazy. 124 Remember?!? Verna Remember when we almost got stuck at Burger King with Steve and Toi be- cause his car wouldn’t start. Lynne and Scott Y. Our Colt Cheerleaders, Tracey Web- ster, Debbie Stafford. Charity Gray, and Yvonne Lewis, were led by Captain Ja'rae Stevens, and Co-Captain Tonya Turner. The squad showed much deter- mination and dedication throughout the season. In training for the season the cheer- leaders held summer practices and at- tended a cheerleading camp which gave them more ideas and helped to perfect their skills. As a result they won third place in the camp's overall competition. Captain — Jarae Stevens: Co-Captain — Tonya Turner 128 Varsity Cheerleading Cheerleaders are sitting pretty. Out of the thirty-eight DECA partici pants, thirty-five Flint Southwestern students qualified for state competi- tion. The participants were judged in the areas of competency, personal in- terviews. and mathematical skills. Southwestern students dominated in all areas of regional competition. With unwavering dedication, faculty sponsor Kathleen Anderson helped the group reach new heights of leadership. A new constitution has guided the group to much success. For a new twist, the Student Council is offering a scholarship to aid students in their pur suit of a quality college education. They also added a new symbol of Colt Pride by officially adopting “The Block.” This year’s Student Council would like to express congratulations to Ex ecutive President Robert Bader. This usually meant no furniture in the room and very steamed up windows. Many Young Life skits were centered around food. Some Young Life mem- bers remember such things as candied onions, a can of sardines, baby food, eggs, and chocolate syrup.
