Mr. Gordon Spencer. Mr. Richard Syring. Mr. Harry Hammond, and Mr. Orville Greanya await the outcome of a chemistry experiment. Science Emphasizes Lab Work In recent years the trend has been toward making the science classes, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physiology. Electronics, and Conserva- tion. consist of more laboratory work and less textbook work. Southwestern is following this trend. The science department sponsors an Elec- tronics Club and a Garden Club. It also en- courages students to take part in the Science Fair, which occurs each year in April. Biology, a study of molecular and organic materials, helps students to understand the de- velopment of nature. Chemistry is the study of inorganic substances and how they affect us. Physics, the fundamental science of the natural world, is a study of the universe, waves, and elec- tricity. Modern science combines many of the sciences and the electronics course combines craftsmanship and theory. 16
