Southwestern By Although schools are often considered to be places frequented only during the day, this is certainly not true of Southwestern. Activities, both academic and social, are planned for almost every night in the week. Students are provided with a place for study, learning, and entertainment. The purpose of this yearbook is to show both sides of our school life, not just our daily routine. This is Southwestern, by day and by night. 2

On November 22, 1963 the life of a man, an outstanding American, was brought to a sudden end. The death of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in all of its tragic realness, held the heartbeat of the nation transfixed for several days. Americans young and old were drawn closer together by the loss of our devoted leader who, in life and in death commanded the respect of the entire world. We, the faculty and students of Southwestern turn to this ballad as an expression of our feelings. Yes, the heart of the world weighs heavy with the helplessness of tears. For the man cut down in a Texas town in the summer of his years. And we who stay must not ever lose the victories that he won, For wherever men look to freedom, then his soul goes riding on. 4 Southwestern Boy Scouts perform the raising of to half mast in remembrance of the president.
