I 'T'- V 'Ii M1ss Althea W1ll1amson r M1chael Yatchman Class Adv1sors The graduatmg class of January 1957 w1shes to express our s1ncere and deepest apprec1at1on to M1ss Althea W1ll1amson and Mr M1Cha61 Yatchman our class adv1sors They have helped us greatly 1n ach1ev1ng our goals M1ss W1ll1amson was born 1n Evansvzlle Ind1ana She attended Eastern M1ch1gan State College where she rece1ved her bachelor of sc1ence degree Th1s IS her th1rt1eth year as a phys1ca1 educat1on mstruc tor at Southwestern She IS the d1rector of the g1rls athletxc department M1ss W1l11amson also sponsors the g1rls 1ntramural basketball teams Mr Yatchman was graduated from Southwestern 1n January 1942 He attended MlCh1gaH State Col lege and was graduated 1n 1949 Mr Yatchman coaches the Prospector football and track teams IS also the sponsor of the Lettermen s Club He 1S well 11ked by the faculty and students To show our apprec1at1on we are very happy that we have had the pr1v1lege of hav1ng M1ss W11l1amson and Mr Yatchman to gu1de and d1rect us Our class w1ll never forget the wonderful gu1dance and k1ndness bestowed upon us by these w1se 1nstructors We hope that they w1l1 cont1nue to help the future classes as much as they have helped us 7X if L a.!ffZL,4f'-'1 Ded1cat1on To express our smcere grat1tude and deepest ap prec1at1on we the graduat1ng class of January 1957 would l1ke to dedlcate our P1ctor1a1 to Mrs Mary Flake and Mr Harry Shuman We know these two faculty members not only as w1se mstructors but as teachers who have shown an 1nterest 1n the 3Ct1Vl t1es of Southwestern Mrs Flake was born 1n Detro1t M1ch1gan and attended Lmcoln H1gh School She furthered her educat1on at M1ch1gan State Un1vers1ty where she re Ce1Ved her bachelor of arts degree Th1s lS her second year as an Engl1sh teacher at Southwestern She has prev1ously taught at Post Intermed1ate and Ed1son Jun1or H1gh School 1n Dearborn Mrs Flake copyreads for the Prospector and also took part 1n the sen1or play th1s year Born 1n Montgomery Pennsylvan1a Mr Shuman attended Bloomsburg H1gh School He cont1nued h1s educat1on at Pennsylvan1a State and later at Wayne State Un1vers1ty where he obta1ned h1s bachelor of He has been the band 1nstructor at Southwestern for two years Before com1ng to Southwestern Mr Shuman taught at Boynton Harmes H1gg1ns, McM1llan Logan and Hunter schools scxence degree and masters degree In the two years that he has been at Southwestern he has organ1zed a German band that plays at the basketball games dur1ng half tzme He also organ 1Z6d a March1ng Band that plays at all football half t1me shows The band 15 led by Southwestern s f1rst un1formed maJorette Blue and Gold Southwestern s new f1ght song was wr1tten by Mr Shuman For the spec1a1 1nterest and kxndness that Mrs Flake and Mr Shuman bestowed upon us we w1ll always remember them long after our school days V' Qu . 4k .i wr' Mrs Mary Flake Mr Harry Shuman ' 7 X7, - Cvfv , f ' fr I C X I ' f .1 1 I , ft' '. . Class Ofhcers of Icmuary 1957 f 'luk, im Jock Qu1ll1co Lucy Topel1an Kaye Tertzag Bmruta Ramanauskas Presldent s Address By Kaye Tertzag Faculty Members Classmates and Fr1ends Th1s IS the last trme our class wrll assemble w1th1n the walls of Southwestern After four years of glad as well as hard t1mes I begm to wonder I wonder what hes ahead for us' There IS no doubt 1n my m1nd that whatever It IS we w1ll each 1n h1s own way succeed at lt Th1s I beheve w1l1 reflect the fme tra1n1ng and gu1dance that we rece1ved here at our school Of the seventy e1ght classes that have been gradu ated from Southwestern we are one of the smallest However be1ng a small group d1d not dampen our sp1r1ts' Th1s agam proves the old adage that mt s the ahty rather than the quantxty that counts We w1ll always remember our Class Day It w1ll be recalled as a day when we were all happy and gay, because f1nally we knew that graduatlon was a reahty, lt was here!
