Class History By Valerla DeFrand and Rlchard Fapka Icmucrry 1957 The followmg zncxdent takes place 1n the pubhc llbrary Why the publlc hbrary? Well we f1gured that the lxbrary was probably the least used by the ma Jormty dur1ng the past four years so we should at least acknowledge :ts exmstence by makmg It part of our class h1story! For some unknown reason Val DeFrank and Rlchard Fapka spent the day at the lxbrary one week before graduatxon day Were they studymg? Studymg, at the zero hour? But why? one of those crazy mexphcable tlungs But there they were b1g as 11fe s1tt1ng and readmg Read1ng????ll R1chard suddenly dropped the 'Wall Street Journal that held been busy studymg and Val looked up startled She notrced R1chard's troubled face She put down her copy of The Mature Mrnd and questxomngly re marked Va R1ch! What s the matter? R1ch Ohl I was Just th1nk1ng R1ch About our four years at Southwestern and now we re leavlng Va Ive been tlunkmg about that too In only one week we w11l be graduatmg It hardly seems poss1ble that only four short years ago we came from such schools as W1lson, Boynton Cary Morley, Mc Mxllan and Hunter to Joxn 1nto one great class at Southwestern R1ch Boy' Do you remember our fxrst day? I can st1l1 p1cture lt Those enormous halls and the bxg sen1ors trymg to sell us elevator passes and g1v mg us wrong d1rect1ons Val Yes, I remember If lt wasn t for a good fr1end of m1ne tell1ng me where to go I dont know where Id be now R1ch Do you remember how exc1ted we were about our f1rst Pxctorxal Day? Val I sure do We g1rls were so excxted that we dec1ded to get all dressed up I guess we were try mg to 1mpress the semors R1ch Yeah and I can stxll see you all strugghng down the hall 1n your h1gh heels Val Eventually we were 9A s, and we felt a lrttle better R1ch That was the term we had our blood typed Boy! Some of the g1rls acted as rf they were gomg to be murdered' What weakhngs' 23 -Q-an i Valer1a DeFrank Rlchard Fapka Val Before we knew It xt was 1954 and we were sophomores The year passed rather smoothly w1th lmttle happemng that was world shattermg R1ch But whmle we were 9A s we had our chest X rays The boys really trxed to scare the gxrls 1nto thxnkmg It would hurt The moblle umt d1d a com plete Job and we were all mtact Val We dxdnt do too badly 1n football that term even though we lost four games R1ch But we d1d beat Western and that was 1m portant Val We all had a thr11l because we brought the Lrttle Brown Jug back to Southwestern Rxch And Kaye Tertzag Eugene Napol1tan Joe Sebok Ron Flew nv Ray Herrando and some others won the1r letters 1n sports that year Remember how Colurnous Glover won h1s letter 1n track when he was only a freshman Val And the gxrls who won the1r letters 1n sports were Pat Hudec and Jul1e Caxthdge was the half way mark Val We thought that we had really accomplxshed somethmg rn the past two years R1ch But the problem was that we had t.vo more years to go Val And then we knew we wouldnt accompllsh anytnmg untll we frmshed school R1ch Do you remember our 11A Day? Val It .vas on December 14 1905 We wore tmted blue carnat1ons w1th blue r1bbons R1ch lthmk we were the happlest and proudest kxds 1n the whole school Val Som of us had dmner downtown and 1n the even1ng Kathy Zajacz had a party at her home all had a wonderful t1me a t1me we w1ll never for e R1ch The next semester we thought we were bxg shots 12B s We started off by electxng our class off1cers Kaye Tertzag pres1dent Ray Herrando vrce presxdent Connre Burgess secretary J1m Ed wards treasurer Val No sooner had we elected our offxcers than Joe Sebok and Dor1s Dobbs were elected to accept the P1ck and Spade And then on May 31 and June 1 we presented a movle called It Happens Every Sprmg to beg1n ra1s1ng money for raduat1on R1ch That was the term when our Modern L1t X K, X K I .
