plc' ETH EL VARGA LUCY FORESI JOHN SKRBINA hz JAMES CONCIATORE PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS Members of the Faculty. Classmates and Friends: This eventful day marks the termination of four happy years at Southwestern. Our class day represents more than just a day of festivities -it is our final gathering as a class. It seems like only yesterday when we, as mere freshmen, entered the portals of South- western. We have worked hard to overcome the difficult problems that confronted us as we strove to reach one goal-graduation. Our hearts grow sad as we realize that now we must separate. For many of us. schooling will end here, while others will further their formal education. But whatever road we may take. I feel confident that we shall overcome all obstacles that stand in the way of success. ln behalf of my classmates, I wish to express my thanks to Colonel Clark for his hne leadership. and to Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Ryan. who have sacrificed much to help make our senior year a happy and memorable one. My thanks also go to the teachers and students who helped make our class day successful. My classmates. I cannot thank you enough for the honor that you have bestowed upon me. If not for the cooperation shown by you. I could not have succeeded as your class leader. I shall always cherish this honor. along with all the pleasant memories of our years together as a class. It is my fervent wish that all the years ahead be filled with prosperity and health for all. Thank you. and may God be with you always. VALEDICTORY By VIOLET KACIIADOURIAN On such a joyous and memorable occasion as this. our senior class day. I am indeed proud to address you. my fellow classmates and friends. Today our emotions are tinged with joy and sadness: joy. because attainment of our goal-graduation-is finally in sightg sadness, because it marks the termination of four long happy years in school-a school that has given us an overflowing chest of cherished memories that we shall always review with fondness. The time has come when we must go out into the world alone and as individuals to make our Hfootprints on the sands of time. That world is different today. We need not worry about war and desolation, but peace and reconstruction. With the guidance and care given us by our capable teachers. friends. and parents. we. the citizens of tomorrow. have been well equipped for that enormous task. We can and must endeavor to study and correct the errors of our predecessors because we will play a part in making the peace. This time. world peace must have a solid foundation. With all our concentrated effort toward a better and lasting peace. it will surely survive the test of time. The time is rapidly approaching when we shall never again assemble as a whole in this familiar auditorium which has played such a major part during our four-year sojourn, and I find how inadequate words can be to express senti- ments such as mine. All I can say is thanks for letting me be a part of you even though for so short a time. As we shall soon embark on our voyage from ffout of the harbor into the deep may God be with you and bless you. and help you realize the fulfillment of all your dreams. SALUTATCRY By ETHEL VARGA On this day we are assembled as a class for the last time. As salutatorian. it is my privilege as well as my duty to address you. As freshmen. in January of 1943. we anchored our ships in Southwestern's harbor and commenced to make preparations for our four year stay. At first. we were meek and had a tendency to mingle with our own select groups. Gradually. we overcame our fear and our hours here began to bear rich fruit. Priceless was the patient guidance of our parents and of our teachers. who have since become real friends. In our last year. as seniors. the nectar of this fruit became sweeter, so that leaving is made more difficult. At a time like this. when as classmates we are parting, no words can express my feelings. Our ship's anchors are being hauled in and we are setting out to sea in search of another harbor . The future is staring us in the face! What does it hold? Where will this harbor be? Our journey on the Sea of Life will be long and tedious. for Life demands from every voyager constant vigilance and eternal patience. We. as the guardians of the future. must always remember that: We each have a ship at whose helm we stand From above we have a guiding hand. We may have a strong ship and an excellent crew. But our eternal Fate. only we can hew. May God bless you. Though we are parting. as classmates. may we always be together in spirit. L. f l'agr' Thirtez
