The Quiz Bowl is an opportunity for those students with academic excellence to compete against other students in the surrounding area. Each school sends a four member team to compete. They have the opportunity to compete against four other schools. Winners are deter- mined first on a won-lose record. In case of a tie, the total points accumulated are used. Questions are composed by the faculty at Seward County Community College in all areas of academic study. Faculty members are asked to use a universal resource rather than a particular text book. Participants from Southwestern Heights High School were Eric Evans, Steve Brisendine, Kenneth Reimer and Gayle Walker. Their sponsors were Mr. Jim Ratzlaff and Mr. Bob Kaberlein. Also, they played at Sub-State and State BB Tour- naments. On October 28, the band traveled to Wichita State and participated in their Band Day Festival. The Drum Major is Micah Moss and the President Of Band is Cheryl Rickers. Annual Staff The S. W.H. Annual Staff for 1980 was Mer- inda Bond and Debbie Klein. We would like to thank all the people who helped us put the yearbook together by suppling information and pictures. A special thanks to Mr. Brown, Mr. Thomas, and Steve Brisendine. 24 F.F.A. Has Outstanding Year The F.F.A. Chapter of S. W.H. completed an outstanding year by participating in numerous events both of State and National interest. This year the Freshmen members and officers attend- ed the annual Greenhand Conference held at Dodge City. The officers also attended the National Convention which is held annually at Kansas City, Kansas, and the State Convention which is held at Manhatten, Kansas. At the close of the year, they attended the District Banquet. To award outstanding members, they held a local Awards Night. W.H. community and enjoyed a trip to Wichita to visit Friends University-Wichita State University. They also Attended the Iroquois League Festival at S.W.H. and the State Music Festival at Dodge City. Adding to the events they sang at the Fine Arts Festival here at S. W.H. To entertain the younger students of the community, they sang at assembly programs in both elementary schools. And to finish a full year, the group sang at the Commencement Exercises for 1980. 26 Girl’s Glee sang for two programs atS. W.H., one in October and the Fine Arts Festival in April. They attended league contest atS. W.H. and received I, I-, and I- ratings. At state contest at Dodge City, they received straight II’s. There are 37iris involved in the group. The play pro- vided delightful entertainment with angels from heaven, elderly romances, money trou- bles and even a hypochondriac. The cast and technical crews, chosen from all school tryouts, were composed of members of all classes. Faculty director was Miss Carla Mor- gan; technical director was Mr. Jack Dunham.
