The Mustangs dropped 3 of their first four and then bounced back to win 4 of the last five including a 7-6 win over the Fowler Goldbugs. The junior varsity won 3 and lost 2 in their cam- paign. Barry Priest (45), Mustangs leading rusher with 811 yards and 5 yard average looks for some running room. Although John Venard (33) looks like he is in trou- ble , he broke many tackles to gain 296 yards during the season. John also made some tackles of his own leading the Mustangs with 161 tackles. Brownie Lee, the Mustang's leading offensive stat leader with 296 yards passing, looks upfield on the op- tion play against the Meade Buffaloss. Steve Wilson (35), Darin Headrick (13), and Priest (45) help Terry Cox (23) turn the comer against Meade. Terry carried a 3.7 yard rushing average and had 75 tackles for the Mustangs. 51 52 SWH 7 Protection 15 SWH 6 Meade 14 SWH 46 Greensburg 6 SWH 7 Ashland 37 SWH 37 Coldwater 12 SWH 6 Cimarron 0 SWH 7 Fowler 6 SWH 47 Minneola 0 SWH 7 Spearville 41 Darin Headrick (13) goes for the first down on one of his 30 completed passes for 490 yards and a 16.3 yard average. Chad Jennings (66) had the lineman's dream come true when he caught an illegal pass. So why not run it out? David Brown (75), another lineman, helps him out. David turned in 130 tackles and and four fumble recoveries for the Mustangs. 2nd Team Offense Dan Massoni David Brown Darin Headrick Barry Priest Honorable Mention Offense Brownie Lee (Kicker) Brownie Lee (QB) 2nd Team Defense David Brown Dan Massoni John Venard Brownie Lee Darin Headrick Honorable Mention Defense Chad Jennings Kirk Roehr (88) makes a sideline catch for a TD as one of his 89 yards of pass catching. Wheatland derailed the Mustang plan with a 79-77 win in Sub-State. Prior to Sub-State the Mustangs had gone through a perfect 9-0 league record, a second place win in the league tourney and a first place win in the regionals held at Meade. The girls closed the sea- son with a 52-46 loss to Lakin in the regional semi- finals . Coach Mark Webb felt that the season foretold things for the future with only two decisive losses, one at the hands of the IA state champs, Protection, and the oth- er to Fowler, the league tournament champions. With no players graduating and two of the younger players winning honors, the program seems to be looking up. Freshman Kimberly Angell scores a quick two points on her favorite play, the steal and score. Kim used her defensive ability and hustle to aid her 8.4 scoring average and to gain herself a place on the All Area team, the All tournament team and Honorable Men- tion All League. 63 Sophomore Denise Bromwell (30), All Area selection and honorable mention All League team member, led the Mustangs with a 13.3 scoring average plus out- standing rebounding. Mumford, the quiet, brain of the senior class at Rockwood High School, suddenly finds himself cast as the romantic lead in the school play opposite his secret love, popular Donna Bratton. Donna is going steady with athlete-hero ' 'Biff'1 Reese, a bully. In a jealous rage, 1 'Biff'1 tries to kidnap Clif- ford and then sabotages the class play during opening night. In a riotous action-packed final scene, ' 'Cur- tain Call for Clifford'' and the play within it are re- solved simultaneously with Clifford the leading man in Donna's affection. The director of the school play is Eda Troutliver who is on the verge of a nervous breakdown after hectic re- hearsals and opening night.
